100% merino jersey washing and shrinking

I bought a lovely 100% merino jersey from a reputable online dealer and have shrunk it.

I am now in email tennis with the supplier over the provided care instructions.

Their website says handwash only and they state that it has been tested in a machine wash at 30C. A bit confusing.

The care label, however, states machine wash at 30C on a synthetic cycle.

I have asked for a full refund and they have only offered as a goodwill gesture £20 which is just over half the cost.

They seem very stubborn and I am not too sure on my rights considering the conflicting information they provide.

Can anybody advise me please?

Cheers.

I have 2 other merino base layers with no shrinkage and are washed the same.

Have been emailing all day and their first reply was can't be bothered with arguing with you so here's 20 quid.

Will get on one with them tomorrow as they seem to be from another planet.

I hate it when that happens - you want to get right ON-ONE and have a go. though I have brought 3 of them as managed to shrink 2 of them but they are fantastic, right up to the time they get washed.

I wash all my merino in the machine on a 30 degree 'hand wash' cycle. I'd be surprised if anything would shrink at that temperature.
