Road routes near Elgin
I dont often post here but quite often post on Singletrack , Anyhoo Im heading up to see my folks In Elgin late next month and was looking for some recommended routes near Elgin. Distance wise anything around 50 - 60 miles and preferably with some hills. I normally take a mtb up there but will be travelling by train so Im going to be riding from my Mums house In Elgin.
Any advice is appreciated.
How well do you know the area or would you rather I did some with google maps? I lived and cycled there from age 8-18 and did alot of local racing in my younger days.
Thanks Gkam I lived there from till I was 22 so know the area well , though I have mainly ridden mountain bikes there. Not sure whether to head for the back roads to Grantown or head over the Dufftown / Keith direction. ?
Nice and challenging, plenty of climbing and keeping you off the "main" routes that lots of trucks use to get back and forth to distilleries
Quite flat, but a nice enjoyable country run, with some sights thrown in for you and back in via the coast
If you legs are up for this one, go out to Lossie then head out around the Moray Firth coast, coming back into Keith and jump on the train back to Elgin. One of my favourite routes.
If you want anymore, just shout

Well you have kinda read my mind with the first couple of routes.
If you don't mind me asking, how old are you now?
Magic , many thanks for your time and the routes . Hopefully I get good weather .
Im 41 now , left Elgin in 96. What about yerself. ?
Ah, I'm only 28 and moved to Elgin in 92, Went through school there, then got out. Greenwards - High School - Academy - Lossie High - Then dropped out at 12/13....
Thanks Gkam , I went to New Elgin Primary then the High School . I'll definately do some of these routes and will post back or look for them on my strava. They will be very slow mind.
Didn't manage to get out as much as I had planned but managed a couple of local routes which were pretty good. Califer viewpoint climb is a bit of a tester (shame I didnt realise the segment ended further up the road).
Couple of nice routes there, brought back memories seeing the Buccaneer
