Looking for any (ex)Cardiff cyclists

Long time reader first time poster, so be nice please 
(I think this might be a mandatory first line on any new users first post, going by previous posts...)
As the title suggests, I'm looking for any (ex)Cardiff cyclists in search for some advice. I'm hoping there are a few on here...
I have set up and now run the cycling team at Cardiff University. Does anyone have any hints or tips about how to run a club? I'm a bit new to all this, I have been riding for several years but not in the UK.
While the primary function was to have fun, we now, as was inevitable I guess, want to race. Are there any local(ish) competitions we could get involved in?
If yes, details would be brilliant. If no, any further ideas?

No proof of this, but wouldn't you imagine that the majority of drivers have ridden pushbikes at some point in their lives, even if only as kids?
