Halfords Fantasy Comp.

londonplayer, June 23, 2012

Halfords are again running their fantasy comp. this year. So you can legally run 2 teams without Dave getting wound up Big Grin

Does anyone understand their rules about TT's? From what I've read, your riders score no points in time trials. That doesn't make any sense though? And what about the Prologue - does that count as a TT?

What I understand is.......last year it was a total shambles and everyone should keep clear. There was no clear results and everything was hidden behind smoke screens. Wink

I think its only team time trials that don't score points! May have to check this though as I seem to recall setting my bonus stage to the 1st time trial in Besancon when I registered my team the other day! Was at work so did it in a bit of a rush and didn't really read the rules! Smile

on transfers, the FAQ's say

"Can I transfer cyclists between stages?

Yes, but you will not score any points for the new players that you transfer into your team until the following weekend of matches. All transfers which are made by 09.00 BST each day will be eligible to score points for that stage. Any cyclists transferred after this time will not score points until the next eligible stage they ride in."

anyone understand what that means?

I've set up a team, but probably won't be touching it during the tour, as it just seems a bit aggy. FC on here seems infinitely better.

I sent them an email asking them to change the wording as it sounds like it has been taken from a footy fantasy team.
Sounds like they haven't bothered yet then.

Good god, the tour now consists of 21 matches and 180 players does it?!

I think it means that you can transfer and score the next day. The bit about the following weekends matches is another hangover from a FF game.

My club has set up a league on there, suppose I should give it a go, but not scoring on TTs? I'll just leave out Wiggo and Evans then eh?!

Does anyone know if the bonus stage counts towards the points for the stage prizes? If it does then it probably means you'll only get 1 chance to win a stage which will be on the day you use the bonus! Can't find this clarified anywhere on the site..

Oh dear, it looks really bad. I've picked a prologue team, I might just log on every few days and make a load of transfers for whatever the next stage is. The road.cc game is approximately 8 million times better.
Good team tho...
Cancellara
Boasson Hagen
Grivko
Chavanel
Larsson
Sagan
Zabriskie
Kessiakoff
Martin (not Dan)
I'm convinced Wiggins is going to win the prologue but for some reason haven't picked him. Only just noticed that. Hmm.

Disregarding any problems with the actual site. If the halfords game bringings more people to the joys of cycling and gets them on bikes I'm all for it. At the end of the day the more people that cycle the better it will be for all of us.

the interesting thing about the Halfords game is that the "spending power" as manager seems to be overly generous. This might initially make you think that the game will be easier. But it could make the game much harder as everyone will be able to buy the top riders.

anyone else have a view on that?

I agree, it's going to be incremental gains really if everyone's got the main men. It's also really weird how they done rider values, people like Bozic, Kittel, Rojas and Gallopin and Scarponi are amongst the cheapest riders in the game but are much more expensive in the road.cc game and rightly so. Picking out the cheap superstar will be a solid tactic for the lumpy stages.

Depends on which you think will be the most predictable and picked by the fewest number of other players if you're after a stage win. I've gone for the first sprint stage as I reckon alot of people will keep their stage 1 riders in for stage 3 before swapping in sprinters for 4, 5 and 6.

TTs and summit finishes may do well if you think you can pick the right guys and plan well to get them in with the transfers you have. Given that points are only finish line and for holding the yellow/green jersey you don't need to worry so much about breakaways.

Did you include the 2 points per rider for completing the stage, and Cancellara will have got 9 extra points, 6 for being in yellow, 3 for being in green.

I'm actually kind of enjoying the Halfords game at the minute, having all your transfers in one lump at the start of the week is interesting and a different approach. It allowed me to gut my team after the first two stages and set up a full sprint team but it's going to be really difficult when we get to the changeable terrain, 7 transfers a week is nothing and it'll difficult to balance it all out. Plus, I brought in Kittel and Rojas for stage 2 and have no transfers left Crying

It's not as bad as I expected, a different challenge but still fun, not as good as road.cc overall and the UI is god awful but I'll probably see it through to the end.
