Giro Stage 13

drheaton, May 18, 2012

Sprint day today? Maybe, maybe not, depends on who gets away and even if it is a sprint the last few stages have shown anything can happen in the last 1km so I've avoided being too sprinter heavy today.

Hesjedal dropped for Ferrari
Hunter dropped for Henao

leaving me with

Rodriguez
Cavendish
Ferrari
Henao

Tiralongo
Caruso
Golas
Rubiano
Pozzovivo

who've you gone for today? Do you reckon Goss will still be feeling the effects of Monday's crash?

goss
cav
ferrari
Intxausti

cataldo
caruso
demare
rubiano
tiralongo

Hoping that today is sprint day we all want. Wanna see cav and goss go all the way and keep the red jersey battle going till the final days ITT Cool

I'm hoping Goss is still suffering personally Devil I'd rather Ferrari win and Cav come second too as Cav and Goss will both be popular picks today.

I think I worked it out as a guaranteed 52 points today from my team assuming none of the classifications change. Hoping for something around the 90 mark.

Ive gone goss as i couldnt afford Cav

Goss
J-Rod

Pozzovivo
Huzarski

I've brought Cav back in, and Belletti just to be different, as the rest of my team is full of very popular selections. Those two will go straight back out tomorrow for a GC contender and a climbing DS. I'm hoping there are enough teams with sprinters that they'll chase any breaks down (and its such a short stage).

Cav
Hesjedal
Basso
Henao
Pozzovivo
Caruso
Belletti
Felline
Samoilau

Cav
Hesjedal
Haedo
JRod

Chicchi
Caruso
Rubiano
Golas
Demare

4 sprinters for me today. I'm hoping for good results from Haedo & Chicchi in particular because they're less popular than some of the other sprinters.

A two man breakaway, guess who... yes it's Martijn chuffing Keizer and Francesco Failli.

They have a few minutes on the peloton but I can't see just the pair of them staying away to the finish.

Keizer might be a good bet for some last man home points when we reach the mountains. Big Grin

A 2 man break could be good for Cav owners. He's been hoovering up any available intermediate sprint points so far, so a possible 4 points available today.

Yep, excellent news for me, I'm hoping for a Ferrari Cavendish 1-2 but will settle for both of them in the top 10... as long as Robbie Hunter doesn't win, that'd annoy me Angry

First time today that I didn't use maximum transfers. Ready for tomorrow but should be solid today. Cav-Ferrari sans Goss would be good Smile

Beginning to regret not keeping Demare and Guardini in my team for today, the shorter stage should play into their hands more than the previous longer ones. No doubt they'll score fairly well today.

Sprint placings:

1. Keizer (8pts),
2. Failli (6pts),
3. Cavendish (4pts),
4. Eisel (3pts),
5. Hunt (2pts),
6. Veikkanen (1pt)

Looks like Goss didn't even bother, I'm going to go out on a limb and say he'll be nowhere in the final sprint, just like Wednesday, and Vaitkus will be on sprint duties.

I think Goss might give it a blast today and drop out tonight Wink

From the text commentary it seems you might be right, I can't see Greenedge doing as much work as they have done unless they though Goss was capable of winning.

Oh well, Cav is still up there, so is Ferrari, as long as they both finish well up there I'm happy.

Cav takes the win!

Don't know the results but sounds like everyone who should have been there for the other sprint stages was there, so Demare, Guardini, Ferrari, Goss, Hunter, Haedo etc etc all there or thereabouts.

GKam, any idea where Ferrari finished up? The win +5 bonus points will suit me nicely, should be on for around 95 points plus whatever Ferrari gets me Big Grin

posted by drheaton [2428 posts] 18th May 2012 - 16:31

All of my sprinters made it into the top 20, but I was hoping for slightly more; 1st, 7th, 12th, 16th.

posted by Wig_Billy [482 posts] 18th May 2012 - 16:31

Kinda hoping Ferrari was in there somewhere, because to get Cav and him in I had to take out Hesjedal losing me a few GC points

Ha - had Kristoff since stage 2 and finally dropped him yesterday. Ah well, went into today with 2 sprinters and got 1st and 10th, so thats OK. Can't wait for tomorrow, but the first mountain stage is bound to see all the guys I think are in good shape getting dropped halfway up the last climb...

Big points, I'd wager - not many teams will have kept that many sprinters in. Surely you can't win a stage 2 days running?! Wink

posted by chrisdstripes [855 posts] 18th May 2012 - 16:46

No, that would be ridiculous (although very nice). BTW what was Vanendert thinking? Probably wanted to see what a bunch sprint looks like up close...

Got 1, 2, 7, 10
with lots in hand for the climbs like j-rod and hesjedal and rubiano for tomorrow. . . but which other climbers to bring in??? Its not a hilltop finish so anyone who can climb ok and then finish might do well . . . such as Nibali . . . what is he doing in USA? So who to bring in . . . Scarponi will want to do well overall . . . but i think i'll go for an AR rather than a KM tomorrow for the win

Not to bad as i've taken 20 penalty points for tomorrows stage with an extra transfer.

According to steephill the profile for tommorrow is a cat 1 hilltop finish with the last 28kms uphill - you sure you looked at the right stage mate ?
