TOC Stage 5 ITT

northstar, May 17, 2012

Hi,

Is Chris Horner out of the TOC, he appears to be greyed out in the game? or just a mistake?

He's not greyed out for me.

Nor me, are you looking at your Toc or your Giro one?

Was definitely looking at ToC, it's fixed now - guess it might have been technical.

Haven't set out a plan for the ITT, saving my transfers for the summit finish as i'll be ditching Sagan

So my team for tonight is

Peter Sagan (LIQ)
Tejay van Garderen (BMC)
Fabio Duarte (COL)
Luis Leon Sanchez (RAB)
Pieter Weening (GRE)
Christophe Riblon (ALM)
Maarten Tjallingii (RAB)
Roger Kluge (ARG)
Ken Hanson (OPT)

Tejay van Garderen (BMC)
Fabio Duarte (COL)
Thomas Danielson (GRM)

Sebastian Salas (OPT)
Christophe Riblon (ALM)
Cameron Meyer (GRE)
Andrew Talansky (GRM)
David Boily (SPT)

My team for ITT and looking towards the mountains. Not doing too badly given I missed the deadline for Stage 1 and know very little about American riders. Talansky to win it!! At least it will make a change. Boring race so far. Why do they clash with Giro?? They were better off in Feb.

February in California is sketchy weather-wise, and this time of the year makes a lot of sense for riders prepping for the TdF.

Peter Sagan (LIQ)
Thomas Danielson (GRM)
Levi Leipheimer (OPQ)
Tejay van Garderen (BMC)
Lawson Craddock (BLS)
Leigh Howard (GRE)
Brian Vandborg (SPT)
David Zabriskie (GRM)
Freddie Rodriguez (EXE)

I'm hopeful this squad might secure quite a few ITT points today . . . let's see

I'd have that, even though i don't do many TT's, I'd walk around daily in it with a dinner plate for a shield Devil

They were saying camelbak for Levi. Never heard of such a thing for a TT rider.

How great is it that in cycling you can have a nickname like "Captain America" and then wear a jersey of Captain America... God bless this sport Smile

Ah, I misheard.

This having the TT on stage 5 after 4 sprint stages makes figuring out who is going to win the GC awfully difficult.

6 in the top 11 with the sprinters to come, as always could've been better but pretty happy...

My team is doing so-so, what happened to Nibali? he is nowhere, knew brining in Horner was a mistake

Nibali
Van Garderan
Horner
Velits

Bouet
Talansky
Meyer
Atapuma
Zabriske

Don't know what I was thinking leaving van Garderen out... I actually had him in for stage 4 and took him out. I am completely lost in this race.

Good news is it looks like I have 1, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 20, plus Sagan, who Lord knows will probably somehow top 10

posted by frankiejay [157 posts] 17th May 2012 - 23:41

Just have to decide whether to keep Sagan for one more stage or bring in a GC guy (Gesink or Velits I guess).

Team is currently...

Tejay Van G
Sagan
Danielson
Sutherland
Talansky
Machado
Meyer
Durbridge
Boily

Actually, have to be careful with transfers, might even keep Sagan for the duration... Hmm... Thinking

Just found this on Dave Zabriskie's website:

Quote:
Capt. America
Finally got out to see the best Marvel film to date. I was floating above my chair in that theater I was so excited. Loved every minute of it and walked out of there with a wide-ass grin wondering how I get myself into a bit role in the sequel.

Still jacked up when I got home that I mounted my life-size Capt. America shield onto the front of the new cargo bike and took to the streets. My kind neighbors, now used to my occasionally eccentric behavior, gave me the thumbs up, others an amused wave, and one rather serious gentlemen offered up a full military salute. You gotta love this country.

It's always ace reading about a pro-cyclist who will still ride just for enjoyment, rather than just training and racing.

I'm still waiting for a Levi investigation into that ice pack and fully expect a ruling on wearing things like that in the future. Not that he was any faster. But they might start shaping "ice packs" like shark fins soon Devil

ended up with 1,6,10,11 and 20th plus the usual gc points etc etc.

After doing this game for nigh on 18 months still dont know how to work out the points Confused

Made my changes for tomorrow as well and got rid of Sagan. It might backfire but you never know.

Gkam,

Having broken my fibula myself, I am surprised that he kept an icepack on whilst riding. It really wouldn't have made much difference, if any, during the race.

I used to use a big pack of frozen peas, which were in fact *better* than the specific ice pack that you can buy from Boots. Also, after a while, you need to remove the icepack as the coldness becomes too much and probably wouldn't help with reducing the swelling after a certain amount of time.

posted by londonplayer [658 posts] 18th May 2012 - 7:01

I take it you didn't catch the stage LP? Wink

He had a large ice pack have way down his back, cant find a picture at the moment, but i'm sure there will be one about somewhere.

At the start when he was in an aero position, his helmet fitted nicely in with the ice pack Wink

BTW as a Dutchie I was of course fully aware of Maarten Tjallingii's TT abilities, but Gesink's progression in this discipline is nothing short of amazing as he used to TT like my gran on her way to the bridge club.

Yes, Gesink was very impressive - looks a different rider to the one we saw in the TDF last year. What's your view on Kelderman? I spent ages deciding between him and Durbridge yesterday and obviously chose correctly, but does Kelderman have potential for big things?

posted by chrisdstripes [878 posts] 18th May 2012 - 12:19

Kelderman is considered one of the biggest talents of a quite promising pool of young riders we are currently blessed with (Kruiswijk, Slagter, Mollema, Dumoulin being some of the others...).

But Kelderman is still very young (just turned 21) and Rabobank tends to bring their talents very slowly (too slowly?) so as not to burn them off. In terms of TT'ing, Durbridge is already a household name, but for the general standings in a stage race Kelderman should be the one to watch in 3 or 4 years time.

(On a side note: Right now, I'd say Mollema is our brightest star (especially given his strong mentality), but if Gesink can TT like that in the Tour he may just end up on the podium this summer!)
