change of subjet but why is there no points for brakeaway riders ?

There should be a point or two here and there, because the break took the KoM and sprint today

But they don't get breakaway points as given in the classic's

cheers for that may aswell stick with leading or top 5 ,classification riders and still pick up points

Brilliant. Ferrari now last man home. Does that mean he scores points instead of Phinney?

Ferrari wont be last even because of his demotion because he just gets put to the back of the group he finished in. Phinney will be last because he was last over the line but will keep GC because it was in the last 3km

If Phinney is in the GC then all of my riders score 1 I couldn't afford Cav without taking out Goss and someone else.

It seems odd to me that Ferrari should take that line, when a potentially better line was off to his left, I would certainly be in favour of him taking a penalty there, if not removal from the race, it was a horrendous line!

Ferraris move was dangerous , how people are arguing it wasnt I dont know. It wasnt even close to being safe,in the heat of the Giro he lost his composure.
If cav swerves to avoid him he risks taking everyone else out and he really would have had to move, he cant break thats unsafe too. So In my humble opinion he got what he deserved in being demoted, it might make him think next time.

As for phinney continuing which is reported. Didnt he cross the line in an ambulance? Does this not mean he did not finish the stage and is out? Or did he cross line before he got in?

Rather than everyone's love of Cav clouding their judgement 3

I'm being impartial, Cav moans like hell about everyone else, but then does everything he moans about. I may not be his biggest fan, but i'm looking at this as i would any incident. I don't think Ferrari is in the wrong, he moved to give himself a chance of winning because he had move speed. If Cav had moved slight to his right, there was plenty of room, Cav didn't even try that.

Maybe there wasn't time, it would have been a split second choice. But Ferrari was ahead and in a sprint, your entitled to go for the line you would and i think his move was fair and not a dangerous one, Just because it caused a crash, doesn't make it dangerous, Cav could have moved

2.3.036 Sprints
Riders shall be strictly forbidden to deviate from the lane they selected when launching into the sprint and, in so doing, endangering others.

Thats all fine and well, but i would have said Ferrari launched his sprint in the movement to go round Farrar, not sooner

Anyways, he's been dropped to last home in the bunch

Favilli ... superb bike control 13

Did he use Cav as a ramp or just clean jump over?!

Hard to tell but it looks clean like he didn't even touch him.

Well he's Italian, so dont count on him being punished 3

But to me, its racing, his move was ok, he had more speed, you can't just get up to speed and then stay behind someone slower, you'd cause a crash, so yes his move may have caught out Cav, but Cav could have moved aswell, like everyone has to when he swings round people, Cav didn't move at all

I think your dislike of Cav is affecting your judgement.

An extra 10 points as last man home? Think I will axe him though and risk having no BMC riders

By the way, the unsung hero here is Elia Favilli who bunny-hopped Cavendish when he was spread eagle on the ground. If not for that we may be having an entirely different conversation!

Yeah that was a great move, bunny'd right over him, then his team mate slammed right into Cav. I can see it being the end of his race aswell, not many more flat stages left and if he's got a knock, he'll be out to recover for TdF

and i wasn't saying he should necessarily be punished, i just thought it was poor

So, with Phinney out, I would say BMC no longer favorites for the TTT. Gotta be one of four teams, right?

Garmin
Sky
BMC
Green Edge

Who you got?

From cycling news 2 mins ago - Taylor Phinney is back on his feet and retains his overall lead.

its the danger of the move, its not a slight deviation its a violent movement...in my book it was pretty poor.
To me it shouldn't matter if he was ahead, he should be more aware before making such a dramatic move.

Same as Rosberg in the F1 last week

Really?? People saying Ferrari should be punished?

Thats a racing incident, its not mirror, signal, manoeuvre in racing, it is what it is

I wouldn't say it was poor from Ferrari, He was ahead of Cav, moving for position to get his sprint going. Its the sort of thing Cav likes to moan about but does himself all the time

Ferrari could well be disqualified too .... seen people thrown out for less!

(Remember Hushovd v Cav in Inter Sprint TdF?)

Question from a layman - what happens in this situation with Ferrari? Will he come in for any punishment, or is it just seen as part of the racing?

If Phinney crossed in the ambulance then is that a Welshman in the Pink Jersey? Not the way he would've wanted it, but chuffed for Thomas all the same if thats the case. Gutted for Phinney.
