Giro d'Italia stage 2

stumps, May 6, 2012

Ok the stage should be off and running by now with BMC having the lead so will have to work to cut back any breaks.

Will that effect any sprint by Thor or Phinney - only time will tell.

Going to work now so any updates would be appreciated.

The break today

Alfredo Balloni (Farnese Vini-Selle Italia)
Miguel Angel Rubiano Chavez (Androni Giocattoli)
Olivier Kaisen (Lotto Belisol)

They have 13 mins 15 at the moment Wink

With 109k remaining, the gap has dropped by almost another minute. 9:40.

Today's stage has been ridden at a fairly moderate 39.6kph, which is below the slowest pace on the time tables, so unless things pick up, we'll be behind schedule and see the finish between 5:30 and 6:00.

With 102k to go and the gap is down to 7:57... that's down from a high of 13:15.

Dennis Van Winden hit the deck in the peloton. He looks like he's really sore, but is getting back on the bike.

It's Sky doing the bulk of the work at the front of the peloton. It's working, too. The gap continues to drop.

Phinney dropped his chain with 8km to go, WAY off the back now. So i hope Hushovd stays in and goes for the sprint Wink

Hmmm, not the end of the world having Hushovd but Cav will be coming in tonight I think, although I might wait and see how much Bos suffers from his crash.

I'm slightly happier that Hushovd finished in 7th, but thats the end of my Giro after making my transfers and them not registering Angry

So i'm not making any more transfers and going purist Angry

Also didn't realise we had 4 transfers for the TTT which changes my plans slightly

posted by TERatcliffe26 [2828 posts] 6th May 2012 - 16:31

Nah, you've got 4 transfers now, if anything you're in a better position than me who chose to transfer in Chicchi and Guardini who've done naff all. I'd love to have 4 transfers tonight to bring in Cav, possibly Ferrari, Bonnet and someone else.

Really Thought it was after tomorrows stage....as they fly to Italy after tomorrorows stage, so an unusual but enforced early rest day. Its sort of given me some options todays result

Tuesday's a rest day isn't it? I figured it'd be four transfers, not that I have any idea what I'm going to do with them yet.

EDIT: Gkam's four are because his first two didn't register last night, so they carry over, it'll be four on Tuesday for everyone.

posted by drheaton [2432 posts] 6th May 2012 - 16:36

Yeh tuesday the rest day, and the TTT after the rest day

posted by TERatcliffe26 [2828 posts] 6th May 2012 - 16:38

Yeah i only have four just now because of the system being an arse and taking my transfers and then spitting them back out......I'll sell them to you for 10 points rather then the 20 you would incur Wink

So 40 transfers 10 points each, then i make back my loss of Cav not going into my team. Pissed off, but laughing about it. Still not playing the rest of the Giro, concentrating on the ToC now

1st, 8th, 10th, 16th. I'll take that.

1,2,10,13 for me plus some GC and stuff, reasonable

posted by thefatcyclist [514 posts] 6th May 2012 - 17:12

Reasonable day today, decision is, do I ditch Hushovd for Cavendish and what do I do about Bos? Likewise, keep guaranteed (ish) GC points with Rasmussen or pick up Bonnet as another sprinter?

posted by drheaton [2432 posts] 6th May 2012 - 17:15

Still not certain Bonnet is the no 1 sprinter in his outfit. I'm going for Demare. Then again, I transferred Bennati out last night, which clearly wasn't the best move...

Think im gonna axe modolo and rasmussen...and keep demare

posted by TERatcliffe26 [2828 posts] 6th May 2012 - 17:39

Narrowed my choices down, bringing in a cheap-ish DS and I can afford to swap out GT for Cav, or I can ditch Hushovd... Guaranteed GC points would be nice but if it's a straight finish this time I can't see Thomas scoring another 10th.

posted by drheaton [2432 posts] 6th May 2012 - 18:27

Delayed bringing in Cav by a day which is a shame, but I have him now so hopefully he gets another win later. Had Bos and Kristoff so shame about the end yesterday. My team of 9 now consists of 6 sprinters, and the top 3 overall, so hoping for good points today...
