Good rides around Edinburgh

Anyone got any good rides up there?

Going up on Monday, day after the Ronde thingy.

Particularly after non main road cobbles, steep climbs, and nice little rides out of Edinburgh and back.

If anybody has any Garmin Data, that would be much appreciated.

Finally: Can you cycle up Arthur's seat, and would you want to?

Cheers in advance.

Hi Raleigh, yes you can go most of the way up Arthur's Seat worth doing as you get great views from the top. In terms of routes out, both the Pentlands to the south and the coast to the NE are good, though it takes a while to get out of Edinburgh.

Heard that too, but at least no trams to dodge 3

I seem to remember that on some roads there are some nasty tram tracks. 19

Would say much the same as gkam. Also strike out towards the Pentlands. Once you get past the ring road and on to the b roads it's not bad. The road that loops Arthur Seat goes about 3/4 way up. You can only get to the summit by foot. Haven't cycled in Edinburgh in years but the cobbles are fun especially the Royal Mile 4

You can cycle round Arthur's seat, not sure about climbing right up it, on a road bike?? 39

Here's alot of routes for you, although i've never done any of them myself

http://www.cycle-route.com/routes/Edinburgh_City-Routes-12.html

"hidden" cycle paths, i've done a couple of these, just in and around town

Bigger version here if you hit "hide blog" http://innertubemap.com/

If you want to check out some of these, you can get the GPS files aswell

Hope that helps
