Route help - North Wales

I'm over in Prestatyn for the weekend at the in-laws, and plan on taking my bike. I'm thinking of a 30-40 mile ride on Sunday morning, but don't know my way around. Can anyone suggest a good route that will be follow-able for someone who doesn't know the area?

Alternatively, if anyone wouldn't mind an addition to their number as a one-off, that would be appreciated as well. I need to be back by around 12-ish in Prestatyn.

Cheers.

Cheers for the tips guys, I had a great time today. Some of the hills were fairly tough, and I took a picture of a flirting peacock with plumage everywhere in the castle courtyard! Nice cafe in the town square where I had a Bala bree or something like that. Sweet current bread, anyway. Knackered now!

Thanks for the writeup, it's good to know you enjoyed your ride.

Bara brith is a Welsh take on fruit loaf, usually sliced and often served with butter. The word 'brith' is pronounced like the end of 'beneath').

Yep that's a good little route! I grew up in Ruthin!

If you can't find a decent cafe in the town itself then there's a good little one in the arts centre opposite the big Tesco.

Think they might have a little cafe thing in the castle now too.

Weather not looking too shabby at at the moment!

Thanks guys - I reckon I'm going to use the B5429 to head down to Ruthin castle. It seems a good combination of rural road, good scenery and fairly straightforward directions. Hopefully find a brew and a flapjack once there, take a couple of pics of the castle and head back.

Now just got to hope for good weather...

Cheers, enjoy your rides if you go out!

I live in Rhuddlan just down the road. Some lovely rides around here actually and like Simon E says, the scenery tends to get a bit nicer (and hillier!) as you head in towards Ruthin.

Have a look at my strava account for some rides if you want. You could download them into your garmin if you have one?

This one was a good one. From what I could see in the dark anyway!

I'm a new member of the might 'Rhos' cycling club too and they have a club ride leaving on Sunday morning from Colwyn Bay if you're desperate for company.

Have fun!

Have a look at routes towards Denbigh and Ruthin if going inland. I think Rhyl CC have some time trial course maps that will use reasonable roads.

A recent thread that might be of use:
