Anyone winter(ising) their road bikes?
Just spent my evening fitting mudguards+cursing, sticky tyres but only sneaked in 23's from tight clearances, 12-27 cassette, leaving backup lights fixed on and some spds instead of road pedals.
New seatpost and ride position from the 109% and much higher up now.
Turned my winter bike into a tourer but aiming for slower longer mileages.
Anyone doing anything similar e.g. Single speed or nothing at all?
Will I miss on 25mm's? hope not but using Michelin Krylls.
Can't find my cycle computer aghh!
Abu Dhabi Winter schedule:
October: Put a light on.
November: Wear gilet for the first 30 mins.
December-January: Arm-warmers,toe covers and glove liners under mitts.
Extra cold days: A pair of knicks.
February: Take it all off.
Brrrrr

i've roadie-ised my hardtail mtb instead, speedcitys and halo twin rails. should see me through till april or whenever it stops raining

Dave, I was thinking of doing somthing similar on my commuter - how quick is that compared to your road bike?
I'm thinking of using this set up for my 10 mile commute replacing nobbly tyres on cheapo chunky wheels- would I be 3-4mph quicker do you think?
well i've got some spare speedcitys and it's a disc bike so it's just a case of swapping the wheels really
swapping out knobblies for slicks will definitely speed you up, my bike is plenty fast enough for my commute which is 5-10 miles depending on which way i go
My old rigid Kona has been doing the commute for over 4 years, low tech seems to equate to low maintenance. My Giant SCR 2 took a beating from the salt and spray during its first winter so I save it for the better weather now.
Schwalbe City Jet 1.5" are good value on the MTB, while Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase a really tough and durable option for 700c.
Mudguards of some description (preferably full length) are essential.
Got some winter wheels to go on my road bike when I put the mudguards on.
I must admit for commuting I have roadie-ised my spare hardtail with slicks, mudguards and rear rack with panniers. Also had some LX brakes lying around.
It rides awesome and climbs hills brilliantly but don't expect any speed records with heavy puncture proof Marathon plus tyres. Goes anywhere but I do get overtaken on 20 miles but short 5 mile shopping/work blasts it is great.
