Clothes advice? (Dons flame-retardent vest)

I fully appreciate this has been covered elsewhere in bits and pieces, but I'm being rubbish at research, so thought I'd fall on the mercy of fellow forum-dwellers.

I usually commute in a normal pair of shorts over a pair of 'proper' padded shorts. With the arrival of more regular rain, I'm wondering what other/similar options people can recommend.

- Is there a particular pair of shorts you swear by?
- Am I being hopelessly optimistic that I might be able to buy some that are vaguely water-resistant?
- What does everyone else do when they're wanting to wear shorts, and don't want to go for full over-trousers or full water-proofing?

Thanks in advance!

Tim.

I will have a stab and answering a couple of those.

I am currently getting on well with the Shutt VR "Yatesey".

really good value for a bib short.

In terms of going between shorts and longs, I use knee warmers (you can adjust the length) also good value from Prendas.
