Easton stems - road or MTB difference?

How do you tell if an Easton stem is for a road bike or mountain bike, or does it not matter?

I need a shorter stem for my mountain bike and have been looking at getting an Easton EA series one to match the seatpost and bars.

However, I've seen them advertised variously as for road, for mountain bike or both, so wondered what the definitive answer is?

no difference at all really. Just match up what EA model (50, 70 etc ) you have and youll be fine.

That's the answer I was looking for - thanks.

I wondered if the MTB version was beefier/stronger than the road version to cope with the extra pounding.

Mostly they are all the same size. 1 1/8" steerer, 31.8 mm bar. Same for road and MTB.

Measure your steering tube diameter and handlebar clamp area diameter. Mate the stem to that.
