Rim Tape failure

Hello,

Is anyone on this list using these, http://www.velocityusa.com/product/accessories/veloplugs ?
Would a blob of silicon mastic sealant not do the same job?
I've had my first rim tape failure and I'm surprised that the best way to stop your tube being impaled on the spoke end is to put a bit of tape over the hole.
I suppose I could go tubeless or make a note to self to ride rutted concrete tracks on a MTB.

Best wishes,

I second the Velox tape. Discovered it myself quite recently. Much better than the plastic tapes that can fail or squish to one side.

Velox rim tape. Doesn't shrink or crack like the rubbish plastic stuff. Cheap too.

Check with the rim manufacturer if Velo Plugs are OK to use or not. Some mfg allow either tape or plugs, others only tape due too surface imperfections.
