Max spend £1300 road bike. What would you buy?

My mate is after a new road bike. Something suitable for 1 or 2 hour fast blasts after work and capable of doing LEJOG (Mate following in van so no need for carrying anything.) Maximum spend £1300. Thoughts?

I'm looking at a genesis equilibrium at the moment, sounds like it would suit exactly what you're after if you fancy steel. Ribble worth a look (R872 or titanium sportive racing would be my choice). Must agree with comments on the CAAD12 though, getting great reviews. Stance might be a touch aggressive for Le jog though.

There will be lots of options out there at this price point and plenty of choice when it comes to frame material and finishing kit to choose from.  The best idea will be to try some if you can and try to find out what works for you.

If it was me I'd include the 2016 Kona Roadhouse on my shortlist (not the 2017 model of the same bike which now costs £3,500)

The 2016 model cost £1,700 but I've now seen it down to £1,300

There's going to be tonnes of choice out there for you and some 2016 bargains to be had and so good luck finding the right bike for you!

£1300 will get you plenty of bike. My advice isn't about brand/model but more age. Try and get a 2016 model, they usually drop 20-30% off in January and they're essentially the same bike as this years model.

To answer the question though I'd get an Orro Pyro Disc but it's 50 quid over the budget.

There's loads of great bikes but he should always try before he buys. Theres loads from the usual suspects at Pauls cycles and many websites. Evans also have a sales on and don't mind you trying a few out no obligation and that's what he really needs to do.
What's good is too subjective theres loads of great bikes around.

CAAD12 is apparently a great bike. The B'twin Ultra 720 AF is a good bike too if you're not into brands in a big way.
