I haven't picked my team yet, made the mistake of not concentrating at the start last time out + the Vuelta format is a bit different from the Tour with the TTT start at a ludicrous hour and climbing featuring really early as well.

Thomas Lovkvist was I think the only ever-present in my Tour team- not the biggest point scorer mind. Might have him in this time too*… I'm a big believer in the importance of continuity in building team spirit

My team keeps vanishing! I've picked them twice now and when I go back to check, I've got an empty team sheet and 150 credits unspent...

I know its only a game and not serious or anything, though the first prize is worth having, but I don't like the transfer rule.

To me you should pick a team of 9 riders and they end up being good or bad or fall off early on and retire. In real life you would be unable to change riders.

Agreed. I stuck with my team through the TdF, mostly because I was too lazy to transfer riders in-and-out, but I prefer to see myself as 'loyal' and to use bikedog's term also 'a purist'. I'm planning to extend my romantic notion to the Vuelta too. If anyone else fancies a league where transfers are eschewed I've set up 'The Purists' - 16377. As we need to pick 2 allrounders, we could really do with a few more to pick from . . . like double the number of KM, PC and GC picks, as we only need 1 of them. But its a bit late to make TL an allrounder now

Beyond the obvious ones my knowledge of Spanish riders is pretty slim - I'm treating the first week as a learning excercise on that one - I reckon that because rider values will change as the race progresses we'll pretty soon get an idea of which Spanish riders are worth their place on the team. Hopefully

Lots of all rounders got the chop from provisional squads which is why we're not left with many. Agreed, it's a bit of a pain but we can't shift riders from one category to another now, we'd be in database hell if we did...

Maybe for the next one we'll do a separate 'purist' league. Actually i might even be able to do it for this one if i get my thinking cap on...

Is it possible to have more than one team in the Vuelta? I fancy doing the Purists League and the overall competition.

From what I can see it's only possible to have one team because it's tied to your Login ID.

Am I missing something obvious??

How are the price changes going to work?

Will it be a percentage change in ownership (up or down) which will lead to a change in there 'credit' price?

Or are there fixed 'thresholds' for the number of owners which will then trigger a change in price?

Finally, when (time of day) and how often (once per stage/day) will price changes take place?

changes are based on popularity and score versus value, and also how far into the vuelta we are. once per stage, when the scores are updated. so if someone's done well and you want to sign 'em up, get in quick before we update the game

price changes will only affect those wanting to buy popular/strong riders right? If some of my five pointer domestiques suddenly shoot up in value on the transfer market will I find that my 150 point budget has suddenly been bust and I am forced to transfer them out? Say it ain't so! Which I'm sure it aint… but just in case

Trying to make some last minute changes to my team and the 'pick team' tab has vanished?

I understand that transfers can be made until 8pm tonight (Saturday) so I assume the mods muct be playing around with the database and normal service will be resumed later?

I can't seem to transfer out riders that aren't selected to race. What's going on there? Thought you could transfer up til 2000hrs tonight?

It looks like it is some problem with the 'transfer window timings' as I have just had this message...

"Your team isn't complete, but at the moment there's no transfer window open. Transfers can be made between 6pm and 11am. Please check back then to pick your team".

The rules state that the transfer window is open till 8pm on Saturday, so hopefully they will sort it out by then!

Looks like the default transfer time has kicked in, and is overriding not just last minute changes, but new team entries too, in spite of the "by 8pm Saturday" line in the rules.

Just created an empty team by the look of things. Set up a new account as I thought "maybe I should just pick them and not press the make-changes-button".

Since I apparently must press that button to commit a team, which will only lead to an empty team and the message in the post above, it looks like I'm stuck either way.

Will this be fixed in time?

If the transfer window reopens again at 6pm we may be ok, as the start time for the stage is 8pm.

when i make my 2 changes to the team. does my budget have to equal 150 or less or am i able to run with riders whos total now equals 159.

theres a glitch in the tranfer window. when you press pick changes it deletes your team so you cant make any transfers.

Bugger, Bugger, Bugger... Getting a big fat ZERO isn't unusual for so I didn't get too upset about the 1st stage. But, getting the same for stage 2 got me checking my team... Guess who hadn't hit the Make Changes button? DOH!

I made transfers for stage 2 before 11am and the value was bang on 150, yet i scored no points. The transfers are listed for stage 2 but my team for stage 2 still shows the same riders as stage 1. Can you look into. Cheers.

are the results OK? Yesterday I had Cavendish and today morning I changed it by Van Avermaet. However, I've just realized that for the points of yesterday, you took my rider for today Van Avermaet, instead of Cavendish which I had yesterday...

I made my transfers for Stage 3 before the Stage 2 results were on-line and I seem to have been credited with double points for Stage 2, 104 instead of 52.

Not complaining mind as it has boosted me by 300 positions into the top 100.

The same occurs with my team: I had Cavendish yesterday; I changed it by A.Davis and I didn't get the points of Cavendish from yesterday.
The results are not totally correct, are they?

We know there's an issue with people who had made their stage 3 transfers before we discovered there was a glitch in the game - we will be correcting these so your Stage 2 score reflects your Stage 2 team, but it may take a little time.

WeaverValleyWannaBs thinks his current team is wrong and that he did press the 'make changes' button.On the list of his points for stage 2, he still has Cancellara who he sold after stage 1!

I was coming here to report that if you add up the points behind my riders from stage 2, you only end up with half the points hat I seem to have scored. Then I saw the comment above and I checked a few other people too. Did we all (or more of us) end up with double points for stage 2?

I have got double points, but I can't tell if it is correct, because it has my stage 3 riders listed. WeaverValleyWannaBs has a mixture of stage 1,2 and 3 riders listed on his list of points for stage 2.

To be honest, I liked the Fantasy Tour exactly as it was. I think it has all got too complicated. If it isn't broken don't fix it etc. Next time, can we go back to the original Fantasy Tour format please??

There is another glitch in the riders that are listed for transfers. The team sheet shown has been correct on all stages, but the riders it listed as in and out are incorrect.

Haven't touched Lars Bak at all since I put him in my start list. Yet he has gone out on stage 2 and back in on stage 3 according to my transfer overview. That should have been other riders (again, the actual team sheet for the stages is correct).

I have not received my points for Koldo Fernandez on stage 2. Somehow he is not in my team for stage 2. It seems like the technical problems with transfers before stage 3 could have affected my team? Can somebody help me and fix this?

My points for stage 2 list of riders has been changed but it is still incorrect - 1 of my stage 3 riders is still on it!

I still have Manuel Ortega listed wrongly as mine in Stage 2!

This is unacceptable, guys! WeaverValleyWannaBs has only 17 points now for stage 2. He had Mark Cavensish yesterday, but now you don't have him on WeaverValleyWannaBs' points for Stage 2 list. I know this is wrong.

Please can you look into this, and assure me that you will fix these problems? It is certainly taking all the fun out of the game, and with prizes at stake too, you really have to get this right!

I was tempted when John Lee Augustyn pulled out to break my purist status but have resisted and will send out 8.

To Speedy1319 and anyone else having problems, we are aware of the issues and they are being addressed, unfortunately it's happened on a day when most of the team is en route to Eurobike but as soon as we have a chance we will ensure the scores reflect the various transfers etc actually made.

I just tried to transfer out two of my riders who abandoned (grey riders), and the screen said i had 4 transfers available. But after moving in 2 riders to take the grey riders' places, suddenly I have no transfers left! What happened to my other 2 transfers? (The ones I would have had if I had no abandoned riders on my team.)

Hi, 2 of my riders are greyed out, which I thought meant they have retired but according to the offical Vuelta site David Zabriskie & Carlos Barredo are not in the "Withdrawals" list, even though I have 4 transfers available. Looks like rcs500 may have the same issue?

Road.cc - you are doing a great job with this game, don't get worry about the complainers, there are bound to be glitches in a game with 198 riders (and over 800 teams) competing in so many competitions all at the same time.

I for one like the changes you have made from the Fantasy Tour game (but then, I am doing pretty well, 7th overall - Woooo!).

hi guys - sorry about the glitches. we feel your pain, and instead of riding bikes on the eurobike demo day i'm in the press centre trying to fix it over the wires. stay tuned. the problems should be ironed out for the next window. we'll probably revert to the original system for transfers.

I can't do the changes. When I click over "Transfers", this message is showed:

"No transfer window open

My mum speedy origanlly chose a team. it was full of people who she liked and who are kind to their mothers. when i saw the team i bursted out laughing at her team because it was never gonna win. she changed parts of her team. turns out that one of the guys who she kept is 1st in the GC. unbelievable.

The game results are based on what was on the Vuelta website earlier.

while your checking that can you please check the points given to the Lantern Rouge for stage 5. Serafin Martinez came in last but he only got 5 points for leading the mountains classification. He should have got 15 points including the 10 for the Lantern.

Re the two queries from yesterday's Stage 5.

Davemchol - correct, Tossato was initially given 4th as a result of wrong ID, correct 4th place was his team mate Weylandt, so he now has the points instead.

Etsuko Hama - unlike our Fantasy TDF game, in this one the Lanterne Rouge is the last rider in GC, not on stage (see rules), so sorry, no points for Martinez - in any event, official results we have show Riblon as last on yesterday's stage.

This is happening again as I have a rider at 4.8, credit of 0.1 and want a rider worth 4.9. Is it because their values have been changed 'in the background' but these are not showing up yet?

Hi guys, couple of queries about my team. I transfered Denis Galimzyanov into my team for Stage 12 but somehow Julian Dean appeared there instead. Also way back on stage 2 I had Matt Goss in my team but it registered as Xavier Tondo. It won't make a huge amount of difference but could someone take a look please! Ta in advance!

Evening guys. Because of Igor Anton's intimate moment with the tarmac today, I should have had three transfers (and it said as much on the transfer page). Trouble is that I swapped Anton and 1 other rider and I am now told I have used all my available transfers.

I had exactly the same problem as ourdave - I thought Anton's demise should have left me with 3 transfers instead of the 2 I found. Gutted for the rider, mind - only 7km from the finish was even worse.

Be really good if you stuck with the basic system as used in the fantasy tdf without the varying score values, it just seems to have cocked everything up. Still showing weird transfer goings on with my team, with riders subbed in twice but never moved out according to my team page...

Hm - i managed to make three, but i did it on the javascript based picker, so you could try that page, there's a link on the transfers page.

Apologies that we've had some issues with the game. It's the transfer system rather than the changing values that's been the issue but we're working to fix it... come next year when we roll out the shiny new season-long game it'll be a thing of wonder, so bear with us and sorry for the glitches...

Same problem here, supposed to have three transfers due to GALIMZYANOV but have just been told I've had my two transfers and that's it! BTW, what happened to Galimzyanov as didn't find out yesterday during Eurosport's coverage, and can't find anything on the race reports here or CyclingNews?

We're working on this, but as you've probably already guessed the fix isn't going to be ready for the start of today's stage. It will be fixed as soon as possible though and hopefully today's transfer issues will be resolved too, so that you get the riders you'd wanted for today's stage

A bit late for this one, but maybe something for future fantasy GTs that you are running:

It might be nice to show the daily stage rankings too (so you can see how godawful your choice for that stage was compared to the rest )

For instance: if you clicked on any stage number (on the left) in your points scored overview, it could list the Team totals for that. Right no you can see what you scored, but there is no indication anywhere how it compares to Teams picked by other players, on that day.

And yes, I'm enjoying it. Thanks for running it.

It's impossible to win to "meninblack". He/she always has the stage winner and every stage is one of the best 10 user of the day... it's a very hard job to close the gap with "meninblack". I'll have to make some risks...

Just happened to notice that today Nicolas Roche was only given 4 points despite being 7th overall and 16th on stage, which should be 4 points for the overall plus 5 points for 16th place...according to the rules anyway.

Making me wonder how many of the other scores aren't right, just haven't got the time to go back and check them...

yup, you can - now updated. sometimes the vuelta site will simply leave a rider out of their provisional results, then stick them in at the end. that's what happened to roche - we caught it on the gc but not on the stage finish

Congrats to the joint winners, it's been really enjoyable. 68th for me, not bad considering I spent the first few stages hell bent on being a purist, then I cracked. or I might have been higher up. It has been a great diversion for me since I am recovering from collapsing on my bike on 6th August and ending up in intensive care.
Well done for the organising, must be a big job. Maybe a few more riders in each classification would give a bigger spread of results.

68th is pretty good going beats my 547th – I had purity forced upon me by Eurobike and my team never really recovered - well that's my excuse anyway

I'm not the keeper of the rules, that's Dave, but my reading of them is that in the event of a tie the player with the highest score on the final stage wins…more on that tomorrow morning though. In the meantime congrats to everyone that took part - especially meninblack and saioarri who tied on points at the top, and an awesome displays also from the other five players that got over 2000 points.

If anyone has any suggestions about how we can improve the game fire 'em in they will be given plenty of consideration before we roll out the next one. I take your point on possibly having more riders in each category - certainly be good to have more all rounders.

Dave and Tony (but probably mostly Dave ), thanks for putting on Fantasy Vuelta and for battling through the glitches and gremlins - none of which ultimately prevented any of the fun. There were some incredible scores racked up, not by my team though. Anyway, I look forward to doing it again - whenever you're ready. Thanks again.

Yes, big props to Dave for building both the fantasy games, my sole contribution was the vague notion that it might be a nice thing to do.

We shouldn't forget the unsung hero of all this either - Simon, he made loads of useful suggestions when it came to formulating the game play and along with Dave he's been the one putting the scores on the doors and generally keeping an eye out for potential problems… and making sure they all got sorted too. Thanks to both of them.

Dave, my 12-year old and I have thoroughly enjoyed the Fantasy Vuelta - many thanks. We were slightly gutted to finish 12th, just 9 points out of the prizes We did the same in the Fantasy Tour de France, namely assumed the 2 KOM main-players would fight it out on Stage 20 ! Nope, we should have kept Roche, instead of swapping him for Moncoutie. C'est la vie - roll on the next year and if you have the stamina, a Giro one would be great, too. Tim and his Cyclic Cephalopod son, Hamish.

Any news on which races are likely to go into the new game?

Might be easiest to have the Classics and World Champs alongside the three Grand Tours?

I bet trying to get start lists in advance of the smaller stages races could be a bit of a headache.

indeed, and we probably won't go down that route for those races, you might be on your own trying to work out who's racing and who's not

Funnily enough, though, some of the smaller stage races - Tour Down Under and Tour of California last year, for example - make it reasonably easy for the average punter to find out who's racing by making periodic announcements of teams in the build-up to the race

So you might provide complete rider rosters for the season (25 riders per team?) and we 'do the research' ourselves for each race... that fill my mornings in the office quite nicely!

I still think I would like to see all of the 'classics', the three grand tours and the worlds making up the season long fantasy game for 2011.
