Recycling / disposing of my old tyres - what to do?

Dear all,

I have a quick question one of you might be able to answer.

I recently bought a new set of tyres. I've replaced the rear one, and the front is soon to follow.

However, what should i do with the old tyre? It's badly worn, I wouldn't want anyone to ride it 2nd-hand.

Apparently car tyres can't go to landfill, but must be recycled / properly dealt with. The ban doesn't apply to bike tyres - but does anyone know how i can do the right thing anyway?

Thanks,

James.

Thanks! Turns out that in Oxford, a LBS takes them in - Oxford Cycle Workshop. So i'll drop them off when i get a chance.

the local recycling center here* (or 'tip' as it used to be) now has a section for tyres, car and bike so you may find your local place has this also..
