cutting outer cables

Despite purchasing specific park tool outer cable cutters i still find the cable end caves in when trimming to length, however if you use the old inner cable and insert into the new outer end you are trimming to length ( i would suggest tidying up the end of the old inner cable first) the end trims cleanly.

I have some of these:

They have a really useful little piece on the side to which you press the end of the cut outer cabe onto which opens the end back up... They've worked well for many cabling sessions and rebuilds! ...surprised the Park Tools ones don't have something similar.

that sounds good but by using the old inner cable inside the new outer stops the end being squashed in the first place.
