Hi all,
Recently I found Shimano released a new 6800 cassette, with 14/28 cogs.
And I'm also considering change my current 11/32 cassette to X/28 cassette, any ideas?
The reason I'm considering change from 11/32 to X/28 is that, although I'm climbing for half of my ride,
but the the highest climbing routine here is only about 7.5% average and 14% max(only about 100+ meters long).
Even with a semi-compact(52/36), the 36/32 ratio seems too low, but if changed to 36/25, it seems too high for the 6~10% climb.
For 14% climb, 32 cog is good, but when I have to climb out of saddle and the ratio is too low again.
I'm quite sure the 28 cog should be a quite good choice for climb.
But I'm unsure between 14/28 and 11/28.
As for normal flat use, 36 with 14~15 will give me quite a good speed near 40kmh,
and of course, without chain rub. I seldom use the 52 chainring.
I assume 11/28 will give me quite the same result on flat.
And for climb, 25~28 is much smaller jump than old 25~32 jump.
On the other hand, if use 14/28, I'll get much smaller gear jump for every cog, but I may need to use the 52 chainring
for flat.
So any ideas?
Thanks

Thanks for all your advice.
Finnally, I ordered 6800 11/28 cassette.
I tried to find a miche cassette, but no local dealer nor even online dealer.
Oversea delivery fee is not a small amount anyway. (near one fifth of the cassette price).
I was considering 14/28 until I find Shimano Japan labels 14/28 cassette as for "junior catalog riders".
So finally, I ordered 11/28 cassette.
At least, I won't need to worry about the quality.
(Wait, didn't I get a leaking RS785 caliper with leaking piston?)
Didn't click the link then ?
Have one and don't think you'll be disappointed - light-ish, very slick, very nice and the gaps are pretty good in real terms IME.
Of course checked, but unfortunately, I'm not in Europe now.
And the RRP seems quite high compared to the price I ordered.
50 GBP without delivery fee vs 33GBP including delivery fee.
Ah apologies, stupid me - assumed in the UK, d'oh... and yes, they're significantly more expensive than the Shimano cogs alas, but Shimano ratios generally suck* IMO and there aren't that many (remotely) affordable alternatives.
* ..and no 12T final cog for 11 speed Ultegra/105.. seriously ?

Shimano CS6800 ultegra 12-25 is available in 11 speed. ~£42 various suppliers

Ack - of course, thanks. Should have remembered as I bought an 11-25 last year for the turbo because I couldn't find the 12-25 second hand/cheaply priced. I was hoping to swap the 12T final and lock ring from it and put it on the 11-32 with a 15T.
All changed now, someone put me on the path to XX-36/40T cassettes and hanger extenders....
Word of warning on miche cassettes - they may be cheap but ime don't last long. My last one was particularly bad, doing about 150 miles before skipping. When I inspected it, it had little chips on several of the teeth.
If you use the big ring infrequently then I'd get the 11-28. You can always try the 14-28 later. Both provide an excellent range of gears with no yawning gaps.
Either way, don't overthink it, just buy one and use it. It's the only way you can be sure.
I use a 50/36 6800 chainset on 12 - 28 10s cassette. I took out the 11 cog and added a 16 that is not on the normal 11 - 28 6700 cassette. The 36 / 28 will get me up everything here in the Lake District with out spinning out. Yes I do have a little used 52 6800 chainring going cheap if anyone is interested !
Miche also do some other cog sets that might interest, e.g. a 13-30 and a 12-30, the latter you can get from ChickenCycles in the UK for a decent (for Miche) price

The 13-30 is a lovely spaced block in 11-speed IMO though, mmmmm....
Or you could do this

Nice advice for 12-29, I'll also check other brands.
It also seems 14/28 will cause my most used cog (16 in 11/32 cassette) in cross chain zone, so 12~28/29 from other brands may be a good idea.
