Difference between DA9000 hubs and hubs in DA9000 wheels

Hi all,

Although I'm always using mass produced wheelset, like 6800 and current RS81 C35,
but recently I'm a little interested in hand-made wheels.
(OK, mainly becaused I'm a little tempted by some Chinese carbon rims)

One of my core question is about Shimano hubs and its mass produced wheels.

Although some difference is quite obvious, like more holes for DA hubs (at least 18/24 for hubs and 16/21 for mass-produced wheelse)
and straight-pull vs J spoke.

Someone told me straight-pull provides better power transfer than J spoke.
So I'm wondering is DA9000 hub as good as the hub used in DA9000 wheels?
And is there any method to get hubs used in DA9000 wheels?
Lastly, any good recommendation other than DA9000 hubs for hand made wheels?

Thanks.

Best not to believe everything you get told.

Campagnolo record hubs. The best money can buy. Yes, with Shimano freehubs if you want.
