Paris to let cyclists go on red

Well this will be fascinating to watch and see what happens

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-33446899

Imagine the reaction here ? But I have believed for a while like in the states cars should be able to turn left on red. I have seen that work very well in the States.

Unfortunately it looks like it will often adversely affect pedestrians crossing at the junction.

Luckily, in this country we use mini roundabouts rather than 4-way stops, & have narrower streets so don't have the need for them to slow motor traffic, and then need to allow Idaho-stops for cycles.

"I don't want to move to a city where the only cultural advantage is being able to make a right turn on a red light." -- Woody Allen

Arguably, Paris has a few other cultural advantages.

In one state (Idaho) we also have a law allowing cyclists to roll through stop signs without stopping, and treat a red light as a stop sign. There has been a great deal of chatter about spreading that law to other states, but I don't believe any have done so.
