Cycling from NEC to town

Down in birmingham next week and as I'm letting the train take the strain I thought I'd take my bike down. Is cycling from the NEC to the city centre doable route wise?

I do 10 miles each way to work, so hopefully the distance is similar...

PS> I have done a cyclestreets enquiry, but just wanting some context to go with the map!

The Grand Union canal goes quite close. Coventry Road is very busy. Bordesley Green East might be worth trying but i'm not sure where access to NEC is near Marston Green. See http://birminghamcyclist.ning.com/group/commuting (scroll down)

Thanks for the info, and really interesting site, sadly I couldn't get a train that got me where I needed to be on time so I'm flying down. Was looking forward to riding somewhere new too!
