Giant Defy

Hi. I'm after some opinion on changing my bike. I run a Giant SCR alux frame with carbon forks. Transmission is standard triple with Tiagra components all through. Wheels are Shimano R500s. The bike weighs in at 9.5kg and is in great condition. Although old it rides like a new bike and I had no trouble doing the ride100 in 5hrs 15mins. Would I get any real benefit by moving to the latest Defy?

No.

In the real world the manufacturer's claims about increased stiffness, weight, aerodynamics etc etc amount to nothing.

For distance events on relatively level terrain, the things that will make you faster are (1) training, and (2) eliminating drag. So an aero wheelset or handlebars on your Giant SCR will probably do more to increase your speed than a new Defy. However, if owning a new Defy inspires you to train more, it might make you faster.
