Noisy Hub

I have just fitted a set of wheels with a Hope mono rear hub. The first thing I have noticed is that the freewheel is really loud compared to the old Shimano wheels I had on before. I have been told it is normal for this type of hub. Has anyone out there got the same hub? Is this normal?

Reminds me of my youth, when men were men and hubs were loud. I once had a Campag' rear that you could hear from a hundred yards, which at least saved me from saying good morning to slower riders.

Thanks for both replys, I have gone from being annoyed by it to taking a sense of pride in it. Bring on the noise!!

It's normal for Hope hubs. A few drops of oil into the pawls will quieten it down for a while.

Used it to your advantage a freewheel when heading towards people, soon gets there attention.
