FD6700 compatibility.

Started upgrading to Shimano 11 speed. Already have the fd. I know - start at the bottom. I read an 11 speed fd is not compatible with a 10 speed shifter and chainset as the two systems have different pull ratios. Is that true and if so why won't it work? To my limited logic it seems that if the shifter pulls the correct amount for the chainset then fd should just move the necessary amount. Or am I missing something? Thanks.

The lever on the 11 speed front mech is longer than 9& 10 speed so the shift lever has to pull more cable to move the mechanism the same amount. Should make for a lighter action but you need paired shifters and mech. Same for the rear mech

Thanks for the explanation - now it makes sense. Looks like I have no choice but to spend more money. Hey-ho.
