Plans/Ambitions for 2015

What are you are aiming for next year ?

For me it is building up to June when I do two hard sportives (both 160km and 2500m of climbing) and 3 days in the Alps climbing all the main Cols.

After that and some rest will prob go for TT's for the rest of the year.

If you're new please join in and if you have questions pop them below and the forum regulars will answer as best we can.

Ride the bike more! Managed to ride on 70% of days in 2014. Want to up that

My riding is 99% utility, so want to ride the 17 mile commute to work even more often.

Target is to get commute down to sub hour. Also to drop another 1 to 1.5 stone in weight by summer.

I'd like to complete something like C2C in one day(or night), but that depends on personal circs permitting

To be able to get back on a bike and ride.

The aim is to get the green light from my spinal surgeon to say my fusion is showing signs of taking, then get back on the off road paths. At some point I'm going to get back on the road.

The major aim is to do a 100 ride or if I'm feeling good ride the first stage of last years tour.

I have a 300 mile ride in 24hours to train for ...... Is 8 months long enough?? Advice would be greatly received ( only really started riding as well)

yes 8 months is enough and in my view all you can do is to wind up the miles week by week, presume you have the time for long sessions on road and/or trainer.

Anything is possible with determination and time !

-a full BRM series (2,3,4,6,10)00 km brevets/audaxes
-Paris-Brest-Paris

I'd like to ride a 600 straight through, something I've only sort of done once (29h 34m).

-my first UltraRun
-Ironman New Zealand
-Celtman Xtreme Triathlon (for this last one I'm in the market for a "support crew": someone who will drive a car, and run 15 hard km with me. Anyone interested?) 103

I'd like to just get out more, put more miles in and socialise with friends. A new bike to do it all on would be nice. I also fancy doing a charity ride, probably 2016. The London to Paris ride always looks interesting.

Apart from all the social miles with my mates I'll also be doing some Cat 4 racing (old man category).

Flanders in April.

We plan to ride Ventoux in June, I'm down in the Pyrenees in August to do some classic climbs as the kids play in the pool and I'm doing the Cambridge Gran Fondo and Velothon Wales.

In addition I'm doing the Newcastle to London in 24hrs challenge and a group of us are doing Barmouth to Great Yarmouth in 48hrs for Cancer Research UK.

It's going to be a great 2015.

Ride 12 metric centuries.
Raise money for the nf foundation, scoliosis society as these are two charities close to me as my son has had spinal surgery because of both of these conditions. Once his spine is fused and he gets the ok hope he'll be out riding with me.

Well my plans had a sudden change of direction when I came off two days ago and broke my femur near the hip.

It's been pinned and I'm spending New Years Eve in North Hampshire hospital in Basingstoke.

I'll be on crutches for 12 weeks and from what I've read that could also be about how long it takes to get on a trainer let alone riding properly.

My first goal though is to walk !

Sustrans do a nice book on the 'Avenue Verte' which I bought a couple of months ago. Good read and I'd like to do it with the whole family sometime and I could do it next year by myself first as preparation for a trip to Chile in 2016.

Get healthy and back to work as off work since October. Ride more often, do a few sportives including a 100 miler, maybe join a club and try to improve climbing. Need to lose some weight and maybe book fitting for a custom bike build for my 45th birthday early in 2016 1

Tour of Flanders sportive again.
Persuade myself that Paris-Roubaix Challenge for the 4th year running is not a good idea.
Hoping to get an entry into Tour of Yorkshire Sportive and likewise with Tour of Cambridge.
Tour de Karntan, this year.

Nowt planned after July, other than enjoying the summer.

Entered the Tour of Cambridge TT and sportive. Need to get a decent aero road bike and practise TTs as I haven't done any for a while, actually 40 years. Belong to a club so no problem with that. Boost my mileage a bit, gone from 4500miles to nearly 6000 this year. Maybe 7k next year! Hill climbing is my strength but need to produce more power on the flat. Going to be essential for those TTs.

The Ouka Monster Marrakech sportive
Great Manchester Cycle (again)
London 100 (ballot dependent, or another 100mile sportive)
Etape Cymru (and finish this time)

Complete Road.cc metric challenge and get some lovely socks.

My own Strava 250 challenge where I stuff every segment I can from my top 250 into my top 100s, and every top 100 improve to top 10s etc.

Cover 8000km in 2015, up from 5 in 2012, 6...

Buy new equipment in anticipation of old items wearing out, not after.

I answered this question at the end of 2012 and stated that I wanted to hit 10000 miles in 2013, I didn't but I did this year with a month to spare so next year I'm going to chill i.e. back down to 8500 and run a bit more.

A crack at the full distance RVV cyclo and the Marmotte in under 9 hours and as close to 8 as I can get. I must be mad.

There are so many great plans here. The very best of luck to everyone, wishing you all a rewarding 2015.

Plans for the forthcoming year include first attempt at the grande route on the Dartmoor Classic. Did medio this year so a big step up for me. Going to have a right good go at smashing the short route of Velothon Wales. First full year riding for the club and I am hoping to do my first time trials ever and in club colours.

sunrise on Haleakala

I tried this, set of from Paia at 3am laughably thinking I could do the climb in 3.5 hours. 5.5 hours of climbing later I made the top having missed the sunrise, although I was treated to an hour's descending in glorious sunshine with the friendliest drivers I've ever shared a road with (lots of 'fasi's being shown out of windows, and people pulling over to let you past).

If I was doing it again I'd ride up for sunset, means descending in dusk but you'll see the sunset for most of the descent.

If you're planning to go up with a guided group, beware, I don't think they will let you ride down from the top, and the bikes they give you are heinous. Better to get a friend to drive you (I couldn't persuade my girlfriend to drive me up even if I'd wanted her to).

2015 is a transitional year for me, building to what I hope will be a successful attempt at a couple of national vets title in 2016.

That said, I still have more aims than I should (well certainly from the other halves perspective anyway!)

Physical:
Drop the weight down to 74kg (currently 78.3kg) by the middle of May
Crack a 380watt 20min test by the end of 2015

Competitive:
- Win a road race local to where I grew up. As a kid I'd watch the racing and it transfixed me, but to this day, I've never converted a win... keen to address that in March.
- Both the regional road and circuit champs... again never won either (been on the podium so many times its not funny)... would love to get one of those titles
- Ensure that I have a first cat licence going into 2016... the last thing I want to do is miss the entry for a national championship because I missed selection!

All quite exciting really.
