Should have been wearing hi-viz, helmet, and paid road tax etc. then it wouldn’t have been run over

My memory may be hazy but I seem to remember when they introduced the whole points on your licence thing at first, there were adverts on tv warning that you could lose your job. Or was that the drink driving adverts?

reading the bbc story, 3000 people have signed a pettition to reduce the speed limit.

If we start from the premise that most drivers speed.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4241215.stm

Then consider the group who speed but don't consider just breaking the limit to be speeding.

Which group does this 3000 belong to?

Will we see the police operating a zero tolerance approach to speeding?

Even if they do it might not convince the magistrates to act appropriately. Last Sunday's Times reports that Guy Martin, the bike speed record holder, has managed to accumulate no fewer than 21 points on his licence, all for speeding. And still they won't ban him!

He is only the most noteworthy, there are some drivers out there with over 40 points, but no ban. All you have to do is tell the beak that it would affect your job and you are free to zoom off into the sunset.

To paraphrase Oscar Wilde on the death of little Nell in The Old Curiosity Shop, you'd have to have a heart of stone not to laugh.

I believe the New Forest NIMBY committee meets tonight to explore ways of inserting the word 'cyclist' into the headline.

and how many involved cyclists?

You might think the effort expended dealing with cyclists might be better deployed?

A donkey is run over by a car. Not sure how this is cycling news. Just business as usual in the New Forest. 22

animal safety is one of the concerns often cited the detractors, as if getting spooked is worse than being run over by 2 tonnes of metal travelling at 30mph+
