Stolen Specialized Roubaix Elite

So, some scumbag broke into my locked shed on Bonfire Night and stole my Roubaix Elite.

Yes, I've reported it to the (helpful) police but my question is this: I believe this was nicked by a petty burglar who struck lucky. If so, I'm guessing he'll want to flog it and his most likely route is eBay or Gumtree, both of which I am checking several times daily. Am I missing any other routes that he may also try?

Oh, and if you're offered one in and around North London, please let me know!

Thanks

RoB

I had a an Allez Elite stolen in January. I had other bikes in the shed but it was only that one (the newest) that was taken. Two other sheds/garages were broken into on the same night - within 1/4 mile - and had the most expensive bike stolen too. In my case, and the other two, it seems that Strava was the way to find out more or less where the bikes lived. I don't bother using the app anymore. An interesting side effect is that I'm enjoying cycling a whole lot more without it.

I hope you get your bike back. My brother, who lives in Islington, had a bike stolen and a lad rode past him on it the next day. He chased him and took it back. I don't advise that course of action unless you feel confident enough, but it shows that there is hope.

You have my sympathy, it happened to me earlier this year.

Bikeshd and Bike Shepherd are other databases that collect stolen bike/bike sale information. You can also set up notifications on ebay to your inbox triggered off certain keywords.

Register it as stolen wherever you can in case a buyer has the sense to run some checks online before buying.

Good luck. It's a horrible thing to have to go through.

Thanks for the replies.

Only now do I realise that I have never taken a photo of it in the 2 years I have had it! Whenever anyone wants to see a photo, I always show them a library one.

In essence, it is white with black and gold trim. 56cm frame with Armadillo tyres but otherwise standard spec. After spending nearly £2k, there wasn't much left for upgrades, personalising etc.

The only individual items are SPD cleats, Raleigh trip computer, Lezyne Micro & Macro lights and a Specialised bottle cage. Not much help I'm afraid...

Fortunately I had it AlphaDot-ed and as a result of that I have the frame number, but not sure if that has proved to be a successful route for finding stolen bikes before.

Sorry to hear that, Rob.
There are a couple of other websites you might want to check out which might help:

Sorry to hear this Rob... Might be worth posting a pic or two and giving a list of what mods you have made... A lot of people this time of year are looking for a bargain and if they know what they are looking for, they can keep an eye out for you too!
