Shay, good point. I do not understand how a pro would take ANY medication at random? Surely they are careful what they eat, drink, snort or inject? At least thats what I imagine!

On the only two occasions where I needed treatment and specifically asked doctors to avoid substances on the proscribed list I was given medications that were banned but was told otherwise. Only by going home and looking up the medicine (difficult in pre-internet days) was I able to a retain that I had been prescribed in one case a powerful stimulant (for sinus problems eventually only resolved through surgery) and in the other case a steroid (for an eye problem also only eventually resolved through surgery).

My point though is that even as an amateur I knew doctors could get it wrong and checked things out myself so surely it is not beyond the reach of any pro then or now to know exactly what they are doing.

with VdB, it does actually make sense to see someone who knows the rules properly. Alain Baxter was banned for taking an american version of a pill, the UK version was legal the US not. certain changes in the mix, but it does raise the point that the rules are complicated and you really have to have your wits about you as far as what medicines you take.

No surprise that some of cheating, and time will tell who, also note MOST are cyclists, so who and what sports are the non cyclists?

If you read the article, you'd see that it's unclear whether the rider that you're referring to (Jurgen Van den Broeck) is one of the athletes under investigation.

Good point, well made. Maybe I am being over-cynical
Hopefully we will find out on the 14th
