CeramicSpeed Bearings

Does anyone have any experience of these? http://ceramicspeed.com/sport/why-ceramicspeed/save-6-to-9-watts/

Do they work or are they a waste of money?

Any feedback gratefully received....

Shortly we published a story about ceramic bearings in generell and especially about products of CeramicSpeed.

Their bearings do work great, are minimal faster, minimal lighter and have a longer lifetime. But everything has its price. 3

If you are talking about bottom brackets, then the independent Friction Labs page should be of interest:

http://ceramicspeed.com/sport/products/BottomBrackets

Whilst not giving you (for free, anyway) a breakdown of which bracket got which score, it does show the absolute friction watts for all the brackets tested, including two CeramicSpeed brackets.

What's telling is that the different between best and worst of 35 brackets, watts lost to friction goes from about 0.3W to 2.1W, so a claim of between 6 to 9 watts isn't backed up by these tests.

Maybe, maybe, if you kitted out a bike fully loaded with ceramic bearings in pedals, bottom bracket and wheel axles, you could come up with 6 watts but the cost is just eye-watering.
