A personal account of "Everesting"

My mate Nic recently had a go at "Everesting", where you basically choose a hill and ride repeats until you've reached the combined elevation of Mount Everest. That's 8,848 metres!

He wrote up a detailed report, which might be useful to anyone else thinking of having a go at Everesting.

Read the report here:

Everesting is a little tricky in Suffolk, which is not known for its mountain ranges. Recently I wrote that it had taken me all of 2014 so far to climb the equivalent of Everest!

If you look at the Hall of Fame listings on the Everesting site, you could take a sample of those done in the least time, and click through to the Strava files to determine an average optimum gradient.
Ultimately, it's got to be about sustainability, and bigger gears are therefore going to be part of the equation too.
It's a tough challenge whichever way you look at it!

Anyone got any thoughts on the most efficient way to do this? Is a 300' climb over a mile more efficient than doing 600' of climbing over two miles in terms of recovery?
Any suggestions on an ideal gradient?

Just wistfully planning something that will probably never come to fruition.
