Chainset compatibility

Getting mixed views on this from other sources, so thought I'd ask the experts!
I have a Campag Veloce 10 speed compact chainset. Cheap and cheerful, but heavy. Most other stuff is also Veloce.
I want to upgrade to something like a campag Chorus chainset. Chorus is currently 11 speed, although there are still examples of 10 speed models on some online retailers' websites.
The question is; can I use a Chorus 11 speed chainset with a 10 speed chain, shifters and front derailleur? I'm assuming the rear cassette and derailleur are irrelevant.
Can someone out there help me?
Thanks.

Yes, but your worries of the weight difference are only relevant to weight weenies using dehydrated water bottles 1 I'd spend the £ upgrading the rear cassette if it's Veloce.

I ran a Record 11spd chainset on Veloce 10 spd for a good part of this year with absolutely no bother. The shifting on the front was noticeably smoother. I've upgraded the rest now to Chorus 10 speed, again, no bother at all.
