£3k budget (max) and struggling.

I'm looking at getting a new summer bike when the sales roll around but I'm finding the amount of bikes around this price point mind boggling.

I thought I had settled on a Wilier, Merckx or Bianchi but I'm certainly open to suggestions but I would like to stick to Campag' if possible.

I ride around 1000km a month on rolling roads with some decent climbs so it doesn't need to be a balls out speed machine, comfort over longer distances is more important.

Any ideas would be really appreciated.

You can get a Cannondale SuperSix Evo Hi Mod Dura Ace for £3k

Not Italian or Campag but looks like a great bike and gets amazing reviews. I'm currently saving for one.......

If you need to ask you're just not an Italiaphile!

That Scott does look a bargain though.

Westbrook Cycles are doing a Scott Foil 15 HMF frameset with Ultegra 6870 at the moment for under £1500. With your budget that leaves another £1500 to complete the finishing kit and get wheels.

Obviously you don't buy the Italian soul and flare that you are after but a bargain is a bargain!

£3k should get you something nice with Athena on.
Probably a fairly standard wheel set and finishing kit though.

I guess with Record, a nice frame and nice wheels £3k is not enough

There are cheaper frames and 105 isn't as nice but it costs a fraction and does work. That's what he rest of us do

What about this?

Not ridden it but have just built an equilibrium and really enjoying that so I think it would be safe to assume this is even better and lighter. Although if I had 3K to drop on a bike it would probably on an Enigma Equinox.

Jaw droppingly beautiful!!

As an Equinox owner I can but agree - brilliant bike. Use it for long distance events and it fits the bill; it is also sporty enough on the Sat morning club group rides. Aero downtube is a bit marmite - I love it but others prefer the Echo cross-section (which my cycling buddy has). Worth keeping an eye out for the Enigma ex-demo sales, which happen regularly (worth speaking to Jim Walker on this).

Titanium with Chorus sounds like what you are after, other than Cinelli, the Italian Brands don't do anything for any more, especially bianchi, who if you're my age remember an awful lot of heavy junk back in the day.

Not sure I see the challenge - you've already got your shortlist and know roughly what you're after, so isn't it just a case of finding a dealer for each and securing a test ride?

My shortlist is solely based on having only owned Italian bikes or my admiration for Eddy so is rather blinked.

I know there is so much more out there and someone recommend steel, which I hadn't thought of, so this place seemed the best place to ask as to broaden by horizon.
