Thought I'd open this one early. Forecast is rain and 75kph winds. Ouch.

Split open.

Could be carnage if it's wet. In the GCN preview video, which I think was only filmed a few days ago some of the puddles on the pave sections were enormous.

Going to be an interesting stage wet or dry. Last time the Tour went over the cobbles the front group at the finish was an interesting mix; classics riders like Hushovd, Thomas & Cancellara, but also GC guys: Evans, Andy Schleck & Hesjedal.

We will have to wait to see which of the specialists get the freedom to go for the win and which will be forced to shepherd their team leaders.

I'll be looking at Cancellara for sure and a couple of people in a Van?

I'm going to concentrate on those not shepherding for sure.

Agreed, + a certain winner of Roubaix this year, those 4 will be my transfers anyway.

I like the 'for sure'....makes you sound like John Degenkolb

Well I have just got rid of Kittel. He looked tired today. Renshaws out too.

This could be a make or break stage for fantasy, just like it will be for the Tour. Back the cobblestone specialists or the versatile sprinters? Pick the wrong one and you could lose out on a lot of points.

Quite a few contenders for this stage, I think. Experienced, tough, fast guys should be the picks, but there are quite a few of these types. Also, enough random stuff can happen so yeah, this could be a difficult stage. I've two transfers in the bank already, so I'm tempted to keep carrying those over and just making two changes.

No Cancellara? 13

You have to decide:

1) Who may go for the stage win
2) Who is going to be shepherding a GC contender
3) The strong winds
4) The rain
5) Which of the strong sprinters is going to be saving themselves for st 6
6) How many transfers is it worth using for one stage
7) Rider conditions after 4 stages

Shit.

Well it's not shit actually as I've made my two transfers on road.cc and three on Skoda.

There is one easy question here, namely 5. Kittel will be the only sprinter saving himself, because apparently he's committed to winning all sprint stages. For the rest this might be their only chance to beat him. Ohlala, poor tiny Coquard, each stone of the really bad sectors will probably feel like a small climb to him.

Seriously now, if the weather will be as predicted, then fantasy wise there is nothing complicated about it: regardless of who we pick, everything will be a matter of sheer luck. It will not be a matter of who falls and who doesn't, but more a matter of how bad each of them falls and at what moment...

Forgot to say, I did the Gruson/Carrefour de l'Arbre sector on the bike... not pleasant...

I took Viviani and Renshaw out and put in Cancellara and Van Marcke, but it is really hard to call.

I have just noticed the similarity to 2010 for tomorrow and the day after. Doh
The cobble stage won by Hushvod, and Reims by Petacchi

Pity Thomas won't be let of the leash. Out of the top 10 in 2010 only Thomas, Cancellara and Van summeren are around this year.

Couldn't resist Fabs in the end. He's in.

Gone GVA too... 17

Hard to call: Cancellara, one of the Vans (Avaermaet sticks out being so high in GC), Sagan, Terpstra or Degenkolb.

Playing it fairly cagey with Cancellara and Vanmarcke in for Kittel and Renshaw (I'm sure a popular combination of transfers) - might make another one in the morning but might just save them up for a more predictable stage. Had a sneaky feeling about one rider in particular but he's 200/1 so I have to assume the bookies know something I don't! Or that I'm just totally wrong. Either way I've not taken the bait.

I hope it isn't carnage. That's the risk obviously of putting a cobbled stage in, that weather will conspire to make it an absolute bloodbath.

I was tempted by a few guys here but in the end happy with the three I've made before we return to the sprints.

Wouldn't be surprised if we lose a GC contender or two today, and even one or two of the more delicate sprinters (though not Kittel, who probably ate a bowl of cobbles for breakfast).

Bit worried by my team.Hoping Albasini goes well to try and get yellow, with Rast my outside bet to do well

gone for

Coquard
Sagan
GVA
Terpstra
Cancellara
Albasini
Visconti
Van Summeren
Rast

Could loose big ground again, but didn't want to make penalties, but gonna have to tomorrow.

Yeah, I would've preferred Degenkolb to Demare/Kristoff, but considering I already had those two in, it seemed silly to change it. If I'm honest, I've bottled it today, too unpredictable especially with the weather, so just brought in the two favourites and saved transfers for the weekend...

Cancellara
Vanmarcke
Demare
Kristoff
Sagan
Haussler
Voss
2 Bretagne 3.0's - Vachon and Gerard - hoping for something from one of them today...

Sectors 7 and 5 have been removed due to the weather, but the last 4 sectors towards the finish are still in. (Sector 1 is the one nearest the finish). Can't wait - perfect day to be working from home!

Me too. 2 in and 2 transfers in the bank for later on. Didn't see any point on going overboard on this stage.
