Really? I see no official startlist on the races website.

People are far to trusting in PCS

There is a full startlist on the official race website, although I often find PCS or Cycling Fever to be more up-to-date, not less.

Competition is now open. Strong field so a budget of 145.

You'll note from the scoring information (http://fantasy.road.cc/stages?sid=7901) that only KoM points are listed, this is becauase this race doesn't appear to run a standard 'sprint jersey' or 'points jersey' (there's no record of it last year) and I remember this having to be cut last year so it's out entirely this year.

There's no young rider comp listed and no 'combative' award which means the only jerseys scored will be GC and KoM.

Something to consider when picking your team.

145 credits is real stingy with this line up..... 2

It's roughly what the game suggested as the right average of prices, also, remember that this is not a big race in the grand scheme of things and that some of the riders who are expensive but targetting the Ardennes or Giro may not be riding to win anything.

Sky in particular are an interesting set up. Will Froome be riding to win or will Porte be stretching his leadership legs ahead of the Giro? We can assume Wiggins won't ride to win but who will he support? What about Nieve? Will this be a race for him to race for himself?

The same goes for AG2R with Pozzovivo, Bardet and Betancur, which will race and which will support?

Which Contador will we see? He could race to win or could be recovering from TA.

TJVG? What's his target for the season, will he be riding for himself or for a team member?

Picking the preferred riders in any team will be key to getting off to a good start in this race.

The dossard numbers are often a giveaway as to protected riders

Oh man, I'm going to be so rich. I'm going to email Brailsford, Riis, Unzué and Lavenu, show them the team that I picked, show them my team's history over the last three years, and tell tham that it will cost €20,000 per rider that they want me to drop from my team. I'm shopping at M&S from now on!

I think they really have their pulse on these things. I love them. If it were me, I'd take their word as good and whenever they have full rosters, put them on the game start list. Hell, I volunteer to enter them all in the game database! 1 You'll still have to update, but so what? I trust them...

Man, why don't we go back to 150 for all races, please? 4 And do the Tour at 175? 4 I hate using so many 3.0 riders, 4 or 5, just to make sure I get the riders who I think will get me the most points on any given stage! It sucks! Granted, it forces people to choose different riders but, crap, it's not that much fun to just choose 4 or 5 stars and then 4 or or 5 3.0 riders... Or can you redistribute the rider values, please? 4

When PCS had 18 riders different from the official startlist that had been out for over a week last season, I gave up using them.

I only trust official race sites now. All the do is rehash startlists from official sites and get rider lists from teams tweeting them. Its nothing special. Anyone could do it and they value their site quite a bit....HAHA

If you want historical stats, go to Wikipedia or official race sites, that is where they have grabbed their data from.

That was last season. They rolled out their Beta site last season. They are so (!)much better now.

They are seriously not that good. I won't touch them, they also are just rehashing results from the UCI site, they didn't even have womens startlists.

Were they the ones you were referring to when you wrote:

I think its better to stick to World Tour races, as "certain" website's that helped us seem to want to make money now and are not interested in linking up... Although, they just recycle and publish publicly available information. They seem to think someone (team's) should pay for it.

in the Suggestions/Requests for the 2014 season thread?

By the way, how's this coming along?

My point wasn't really about PCS - I was pointing out that contrary to what you said, the official race website had published a startlist. Don't let Enrique rule the airwaves - others of us actually have pertinent points to make and its easy to avoid responding to them by engaging Enrique in some bullshit argument instead.

More more more more more, that's all you ever seem to want enrique

Last year everyone complained that some races were too easy, that when a start list was bereft of top level talent the budget was too generous so we changed it and added in varying budgets to take into account the varying quality of the field.

Then everyone complained that the tour was too hard because you had to pick too many 3 credit riders so the basis for calculating rider values was changed to drop values quicker when a rider stops scoring and generally reduce values a bit.

Now after all those changes you want to increase the budgets back up and scrap the value system again? No. The game works well, part of the challenge of picking a team has ALWAYS been about balancing your high price and low price riders and making the most of your budget. The game has NEVER been about just being able to pick the best 9 riders. It is not fun for everyone to pick the same 9 stars and all get the same points. The whole point of a budget is to impose restrictions and force you to make decisions about who you want and the best way to spend the credits you have. Just arbitrarily increasing the budget because you want things to be easier for you is not going to happen. Dave has already said that the budget for the Tour may go above 150 but the budget is dependant wholly on the quality of the riders taking part, if its a strong field it'll be a higher budget, if its a relatively weak field it'll be a lower budget but that decision won't be made until the race is opened so stop asking for the budget to be set at 175 right now.

Anyway, nobody is forcing you to pick four 3 credit riders, if you're choosing to use 138 credits on five riders that's your choice. You could pick 3 high value riders and more mid priced riders, you could pick everyone at 16 credits, you have options.

I agree with this. No fun at all if everyone has the same riders.

PCS is good the day before a race when changes happen last minute, but i normally check on the teams twitter/website, or even cyclingnews, news articles, to verify anyway.

The game is working very very well in my opinion. Its hard to constantly pick a very good team due to the budgets and this adds to the value and the excitement of the game itself. I think i would pack it in if it became to easy and ultimately boring.

Budgets are working well, the only one which was a problem in my mind was Tirreno. Not so much that the 140 budget was unmanageable but there was no-one worth picking in the 5-15 range. This forced me to pick 5 expensive riders and 4 3.0 riders. Then my expensive riders didn't perform, but that's another story.

This doesn't seem to be a problem with Catalunya, I've seen some gems in there.

First two stages are tough to call, those damn late climbs. Seems like Mezgec is either gonna be in the top 5 or he's not going to score at all, which makes this a gamble.

Ive gambled with Ratto for stage 1/2, but just gone all climbing for purist.

Think Moreno will win one of the first two stages

Picked my teams, I don't know what everyone's complaining about with the budget, I've got credits left over 4

Also, there are just too many riders under 15 credits that I want to pick, I'd happily pick 12 riders on budget. There is LOADS of great value at the bottom end of the price range 1

This is always my favourite race of the year...I suppose its because that I know the area so well and the terrain makes for good racing, with plenty of average Spanish pros digging just that little deeper..
Tough stages to call, and selections will be as varied as can be....
Just hope I get 9 riders to the start....this season already had 3 fall off before race starts...
Let my season nightmare continue.... 1

The biggest problem picking my teams is that I want to pick Adam Yates but don't have a spare spot, far too many options at that kind of price and Orica have a few guys I want in my team.
