I'd agree with that bit. I may now know a lot of riders names, and to a lesser extent their abilities, but that certainly wasn't the case when I started playing this game. I'm just back in the same position for the women's races that I was then for the men's. If we don't watch, we'll never learn and then there'll be a whole bunch of top racers we don't know about which seems a waste. I've tried to follow women's racing a bit more over the last couple of years but this game is what will probably spur me into finding out more about what seems to me to be, in general, more open and interesting racing.
The information is out there if you go an look for it.
I'd always followed cycling but to me that was just watching as much of the TdF as I could each year and that was it. It wasn't until I started playing this game as it expanded into more race than just the TdF that I actually started to learn about the scene, the different races and more importantly any of the riders.
This game taught me the difference between a Jesus Hernandez and a Jesus Herrada, until I played this game I knew next to nothing about the pro-peloton outside of a small handful of household names.
This is the position that a lot of people will find themselves in with the Women's races to start with but a little digging will tell you plenty about form riders and before long we'll all know the difference between Giorgia Bronzini and Elisa Longo Borghini or Anna Van Der Breggen and Annemiek Van Vleuten.
Am I missing something?
The women's races aren't instead of something. If you don't have time to research, don't really care, can't do it for whatever reason - that's fine. Just don't do it.
Let the people who can do it/do want to do it just enjoy it.
This seemed to get a bit lost in the other discussions. Was there an answer anywhere?
Actually, forget it - I just did what I should have done before and looked at the competition stage info.
Sorry for troubling you all.
Siri Minge? Are you serious? Well that's one choice I'll make that doesn't have to be random. If she's Chinese that would be icing on the cake, or pie if you will.
Transfer in womens purist?
Yep, they work like the men's classics.
ARGH It has been changed.
There were supposed to only be 4 between the two races belong. because they teams will be the same...

I have to be honest my first reaction was along the lines of "women's racing, I know nothing and cannot be bothered". but upon reflection, I thought I knew nothing about mens cycling two years ago, and look where I am now. let's give it a go. I don't have a lot of time for it, so picked the four biggest names that have done well recently and I vaguely recognised, and threw in some cheaper ones to go with them. It's a great way to learn. Well done chaps for broadening my horizon.
I think that is what alot of people will do, pick a few riders they have heard of and hope for the best.
But as you said, You would have done the same with the mens a while back.
Lets just see how the world cup goes, I see it has already attracted some new users. So if things go well, I see things being a little different next year..
OK
I can see the benefit of spinning the women's races out into a fully separate 'game' (ie separate overall tables etc) rather than it being a subset of the men's game and that way people can really miss out on it if that's what they want to do without it affecting their league score.
I agree though Gkam, it's nice to see new users engaging on the forums thanks to the women's racing.
Elena Cecchini of EMF is also racing, as well of Silvia of Top Girls.
This is important to me, as opposed to misspelling a Slovenian first name, can Elena be entered please
Thanks Gkam84 and others,
Wanted to get into women's cycling for a while but didn't know how.
Very much going to enjoy building from being crap at the start to knowing the secret riders
Choice Attack
They are both in the startlist....what name is misspelt? Because I took all names from team sites
S. Cecchini DS TOG 11.0
E. Cecchini DS EMF 3.0
I don't know why folk have to whinge in these forums. I have just spent an enjoyable hour selecting my teams with the help of www.procyclingstats.com. I ended up with a mixed bag of favourites and domestiques including our very own Lizzie A. My purist team is made up from the Low countries (local knowledge and all that )
Many thanks to GKam, Dave et al
Exactly this. I don't want this to affect my league score as I know nothing. Happy to play it and get to learn about the riders but would much prefer it to be a separate table.
I totally agree with this... especially so since this morning, after 10 minutes of research I decided to do the unthinkable: pick a team without bothering to look for the profile of the race, since I have no clue who's a sprinter, a climber, a rouleur and what have you...
But we're almost all in the same boat as regards knowledge, just as many of us were about most of the men's racing a few years ago. Overall league scores don't count for much anyway so it wouldn't affect the comps you do want to race.
The game's already quite complex without adding a new set of overall tables to it and, as far as I can tell, it's called fantasy cycling, not fantasy men's cycling.
Having said all that, I'll continue to play whichever way decisions go but I'd prefer not to see the real world balkanisation of the sport continued into, and reflected by, the game.
Shouldn't Sir Brad be in this race? After all he 'descends like a girl'.
Gkam. I searched "Cec" and by EMF and couldn't find her. Then saw your post and found her, worked out she's only a 3.0 so didn't wish to draw any further attention to her.
The spelling point was a) with reference to enrique's diligent spellchecking and b) trying to be funny after Friday work drinks.
Team today:
Johansson
Guarischi
Armitstead
De Jong
De Vuyst
Blaak
E. Cecchini
Mullens
Gunnewijk
Purist: Pieters and Wild in for Guarischi and Johansson.
My tirreno team is crap, I need the points from the ladies
not sure what has happened but I haven't got a score for the first race in the Women's World Cup despite having picked a team.
This is really interesting. Is the site b-kam-cycling.co.uk your site? How do you go from Gkam to Bkam? How cool! Is there an Akam, Ckam? Just kidding and ust curious. You may have yourself a brand mae there somewhere! The spreadsheet reads 'Blad 1 Blad 2 Blad 3' instead of 'Sheet 1 Sheet 2 Sheet 3'. What language is that? By the way, how did you arrive at the starting values for this competition? UCI points? PCS points? Just wondering!
I'm guess Blad is Dutch, it came from the official site.
Yeah B-Kam is my site. Just set up in business. G stands for Guitarist that was my first kind of only identity, it was Guitaristkam. Over the years its come down to Gkam84.
So it was logical for me, going into business and working with bikes, that guitarist wasn't going to work. but bicyclist would...So its Bicyclist-Kam, shorted to B-Kam
Incase you are wondering where Kam comes from, those are my initials.
The starting values came from their UCI standings last year, with some calculations and jiggery pokery...BOOM
Is there a problem with the db again? I can't pick a team as all riders are greyed out and apparently no riders in this race (next weekends race) ?
No issue at all. There are no riders loaded because there is no startlist
Ahh ok cheers
I was on Twitter checking out the #ddv hashtag and I saw Amy Pieters won the women's Dwars door Vlaanderen. I have to guess this race isn't part of the Women's World Cup, right?
It's not, no you're right. Here's the WWC;
