Le Tour Mediterranéen - Stage 2

Seems a pretty similar stage to yesterday although the climbs are closer to the end which may thin out the bunch.  Another day for Degenkolb?

I've made two changes, out go Rosa (DNS) and Oliphant, in come Colbrelli and Giraud so my ideal result would be pretty similar to yesterday.

Oooh, just noticed I also got LR with Wyss - so should have the coveted Bookends badge!

1,6,18,19 plus Pantano. Made no transfers, but if Nocentini has abandoned I'll have to bring someone else in for tomorrow.

So-so from my purist thus far. Having Degenkolb in has spared my blushes a bit as otherwise I think I've made a couple of expensive dud choices.

1.6.8.11.15.19 for standard, got to be happy with that. Could keep it the same and have 6 transfers for the TT.

And glad Napolitano wasn't up there today, I feel better about not picking him now...

#TourMed Duarte has attacked.

This could still go either way.

I put Vegard Staeke Laengen in for Boy Van Poppel because of his mountain points and the fact that he's equal GC with the leaders(oh yeah and he's as cheap as chips so gives me my spare credits for Chava on stage 4/5).....and

I've got to say Taylor Phinney's going to be a popular boy in stage races with the age bonus points he'll rack up!!

Phinney
Degenkolb
LuLuSanchez
Stake Laengen
Hutarovich
Hushovd
Sicard
Fedrigo
Zoidl

I do like these kind of stages, so much more interesting than the bog standard flat stages you get in some races.

I think the TdF could do a lot more with it's sprint stages than it currently does, the best sprint stages last year were the ones broken up by climbs and winds, the pan flat bore-fests that are only worth watching for the last 5 minutes need to become less frequent.

Looks similar (pas de couelle is the HC climb today) and looks like it ended in a sprint. All depends how it's ridden, although there aren't many strong teams. To me looks like either a small break to survive or BMC would have to try to rip it apart for degenkolb not to be there to contest. Then again.....

Yeah true, its not that far for them to dig in and get over without losing to much time. Mind you if the peloton want to push it up the earlier cat 3 there might be less about when they hit the HC climb. Here's hoping as i've dumped all my sprinters.

This is pulled from the roadbook. HC climb looks steep but not too high, caps out at about 500m so it's actually lower than the cat 3 climb earlier in the stage.

Depending on how fast the peloton takes it it could dump some sprinters but with 25km to the end some of the stronger ones like Degenkolb should get back on.

Checked on Steephill and according to the profile there is an HC climb at 145km. Dont know if thats the same as a GT HC but if it is then the sprinters are going to struggle.
