A spare Sunday in March? Throwing this out there...

by jacana   February 9, 2014

Hello guys and girls. In a spur of the moment thing, stupidly Ive decided that I would like to cycle coast to coast on Sunday 23 March starting in Southport, heading towards Manchester - Stockport - Barnsley - Sheffield - Doncaster - Scunthorpe - Cleethorpes.

Estimated total mileage is just short of 155 miles and the route is obviously staying of major roads…. interested in joining me?

Southport to Manchester, are you using the Trans Penine, you can get most of the way on it

This is one of those things that I have always meant to do, I think I'd have to get a train over to Southport early morning from Manchester and probably one back from Cleethorpes.

Don't think you'd manage it on a road bike/narrow tyres.

Ive managed to plot a route thats solely keeping to A/B roads so don't think we will need thick tyres (hopefully)! Im heading over on the Saturday (as I live close to Cleethorpes) and will set off on the Sunday morning… can delay the departure for those wanting to tag along, but need to bear in mind the hours of daylight and 'pace'!

This sounds pretty good, how long would you expect it to take?

I'm looking at around 10 hours with a few stops along the way. As I say, I am doing it anyway and anyone wishing to come along on the Pilgrimage is very welcome!
