The Jennings Rivers Ride

The JENNINGS Rivers Ride The Second Annual JENNINGS Rivers Ride - Cycle Sportive. Three stunning Lake District bike routes for cyclists of ALL abilities. One great charity - Cumbria Community Foundation The JENNINGS Rivers Ride The Jennings Rivers Ride reveals some of the UK’s finest scenery and cycling terrain from the heart of the LakeDistrict all the way out to the Irish Sea. It’s actually a series of three bike rides which start and finish in Keswick. It’s called the Rivers Ride because sections of the routes follow the affected river courses and criss-cross over many of the bridges that were either destroyed and replaced, or were badly damaged during the floods in 2009. Family challenge Ride £16 - This ride is supported by Cumberland Building Society. This is an all inclusive event that challenges youngsters (and their parents / guardians) to ride a distance of 11 miles around the beautiful Derwentwater . Middle distance RIDE £30 - This ride is supported by Armstrong Watson. An achievable cycling challenge for novices (with some preparation) and experienced riders alike. 40 miles of lovely Lakeland roads heading west to Cockermouth via Ouse Bridge, returning to Keswick via the rebuilt Lorton Bridge and finishing with a climb over Whinlatter Pass. Big day out ride £30 - This ride is supported by Nuclear Management Partners. This is THE BIG ONE! A challenging ride for the more experienced rider. Don’t be deceived by the flat start which heads out to the Irish Sea at Workington. The route returns to Keswick via three of the Lake District’s major road passes; Whinlatter, Newlands and finally Honister – to complete an epic ride of over 85 miles with a sting that is most certainly in the tail. Family Fun Day It’s not all about cycling as there’ll be a Family Fun Day in Fitz Park, Keswick at the start / finish point of the event. On the park you’ll find a large marquee with entertainment, food and drinks and a wide array of family friendly games and things to do. New features for 2012 We listened to last year’s riders and we’ve improved the registration process and we’ll also provide secure bike parking so you can enjoy the Fun Day in Fitz Park. We’ve hired a much larger marquee so the entertainment and food will be in the same tent so you can enjoy a cup of tea and slice of cake (free for riders) or sample the sponsor’s beer at the Jennings Bar. And if that wasn’t exciting enough we’re teaming up with ViewRanger so your friends and family can watch your progress round the course for FREE, in real time, online. Cycling for a Reason The Jennings Rivers Ride is held to raise money for the charitable work of the Cumbria Community Foundation. We are at the heart of community life in Cumbria. We make grants to local charities and people in need. Our grants help young people and old people, the disabled and those recovering from illness. We support around 500 groups a year, examples include: Copeland Cancer Support Group, Cumbria Wheelchair Sports Club, Harbour Youth Project and Age UK South Lakeland. The Rivers Ride is made possible by the generous support of our sponsors and the involvement of over 80 volunteers. A proportion of every entry fee goes towards the charity, we hope riders will help by making an additional donation or raising money through sponsorship. Raise a little...help a lot If you can match your entry fee with sponsorship, we will help even more people in Cumbria. Getting sponsors is easy and straightforward using our Just Giving pages or by asking people to donate by texting CCFO11 £5 or £10 to 70070. Earn your own Yellow Jersey! Anyone raising more than £100 for Cumbria Community Foundation will receive a Jennings Rivers Ride Yellow Cycling Jersey and appear on the Jennings Rivers Ride Roll of Honour. There are also prizes for the most money raised by teams and individuals supporting Cumbria Community Foundation. “Tough and beautiful, a really good challenge. Even the smaller non pass hills were hard going. The marshals did a fabulous job too.” Liz Hunter “Breathtaking scenery, a brilliant cause and a band of smiling volunteers to cheer you on your way and make this an event you will never forget. No matter whether you set out on the Family Ride, The Middle Distance or The Big One, the sense of achievement and the huge community celebration in Fitz Park when you reach Keswick is one not to be missed” Event Patron: Matthew Wilson, M-Sport Stobart - Ford Rally Team Driver and accomplished cyclist. FANTASTIC, it was excellent, the event , it was really well put together.
