Media Frenzy

Avatar
VecchioJo's Spring 100 gets mediajacked, and this is the result...

Strava, Facebook, Twitter, Endomondo, Flickr, mapmyride - these days it’s almost impossible for people to go for a ride without turning it into a multi-media event*, to the point where if someone doesn’t upload a picture or tweet it or log the miles it’s as if the ride never happened, because there’s no proof that it ever existed. Despite trying to retune the signal to noise by sneaking out for a few hours and only recording the ride in my head, heart and legs, sometimes, just sometimes you want to wave your arms in the air and show everyone just how much fun riding a bike can be.

So here’s a little film those cheeky medias whores at Morvelo made when they hijacked the traditional 100 mile ride a bunch of friends and I do to celebrate the start of Spring.

Bikes, sunshine, friends, 100, cake. What’s not to want to media clusterbomb?

(*yes, the irony of complaining about this on a cycling blog)

Jo Burt has spent the majority of his life riding bikes, drawing bikes and writing about bikes. When he's not scribbling pictures for the whole gamut of cycling media he writes words about them for road.cc and when he's not doing either of those he's pedaling. Then in whatever spare minutes there are in between he's agonizing over getting his socks, cycling cap and bar-tape to coordinate just so. And is quietly disappointed that yours don't He rides and races road bikes a bit, cyclo-cross bikes a lot and mountainbikes a fair bit too. Would rather be up a mountain.

I'm sure I saw someone enjoying himself. Stop it at once. More suffering please.

Recognised quite a few of those roads and trails. In terms of the Downslink, try the North Downs Way-Downslink-SouthDowns Way mash-up on a CX bike.

"warm hands and the things you say / you get lovelier every day"

Lyrics finish at 2:37 but the song is over nine minutes long

Surely one of the finest pop records ever

Definitely the Downs Link and the Col du Hammerpond in that sequence 1

Never really thought of the Downlink as Pave before - there's an idea for a weekend challenge, especially the section from Cranleigh to Southwater 1
