Coppi book provides excellent insight.

Coppi book 1

Apart from my very own first book (which incidentally you can still purchase here) , I have to say Will Fotheringham's portayal of Fausto Coppi is the best book I have read this year.

Without going all arty on you, it is a proper insight into Italian life at the end of the war and the struggle of the country to get back on its feet.

Coppi was part of that generation of riders who unified the industrial north with the more agricultural south and his palmares is a couple of riders off being beyond comparison.

But the main part of the book that hit home was his personal struggle with a mistress and his vain attempts to get out of his marriage.

You forget how different the world was just half a century ago and whilst we have all probably used the term "Gold-digger" in one way or another, the context it is used in during "Fallen Angel" is serious and malicious.

His death remains 'unanswered' you could say, and the tragedy of the whole tale is that no-one truly emerged a winner. Not even a man with pink, yellow and rainbow jersey's.

I heartily recommend you read this book...

Seconded - Fotheringham is a good writer and keeps you engaged. I'd far rather read about cyclists from this era that todays stars. Coppi's life was fascinating - if you want another recomendation try 'Sex, lies & Handlebar tape' (Anquetil) - more unbelieveable than an episode of Dallas!

That's great, specially for people me who loves traveling. I have an additional news for people who loves traveling. Texting while driving is prohibited by law in several states. However, the states with texting while driving regulations saw no decrease in auto accidents. Several states saw vehicle crashes increase after their restrictions went into effect.

Here is the proof: Texting while driving bans fail to put a dent in auto accidents. The Department of Transportation, in the midst of an anti-texting while travelling campaign, called the success of the study misleading. Traffic safety experts have said that whether or not the laws are effective depend on adequate enforcement. Others think the law leads to even more hazardous texting practices by drivers trying to keep away from detection.

WTF has that got to do with the book which is great. As thehatter said, the lives of the post war riders are a lot more interesting that the biogs of the current crop.

Perhaps it's the old rose-tinted spectacles that do it Wink
