I am coming towards my driving test next month (mid 20s), also with Red and my instructor is very keen to make me aware of cyclists. His recommendation is treat them as if they were a car.
This is SW London though, so maybe it depends on the area you're in?
Would say the same - the rider contributes 80% of drag. But before you buy the TT bike, have you removed the headset spacers? If it's still too high then you could try an adjustable stem. A TT bike will probably be heavier than your road bike. Do you have a skinsuit and aero helmet? Both are useful, inexpensive gains.
Wheels are a good place for aero improvements and can be swapped across to any bike. But Zipp wheels are poor value - unless you're in the top few places you're paying a lot for the name. PX carbon or other ~50mm would be worth considering; a lightweight aero 35mm rim e.g. American Classic Aero 420 is worthwhile and an excellent compromise.
Have you considered your training for time trials and other distances? Do you train on the aerobars to replicate your race position? I could be completely wrong but for many people investing in a coach or tailored training plan would do more to bring your times down than expensive hardware.
I'm frankly amazed at some of the comments here. It's public knowledge who her employer is - they would have had no choice but to suspend her in the circumstances.
I'd like to think she'll be charged - but I doubt it'll happen. I'd also like to think that she will be sacked for lying to the media - but that's not likely to happen either.
He can afford to have an off day now...that will make it all authentic again.
There's a lot of predictable stuff in there, but very notable by it's (direct) absence is the mention of funding, sponsorship and TV money.
Pre-Armstrong-affair that was the number 1 concern on many people's agendas. I don't know if it's alluded to under "Develop a long-term strategic plan for cycling" or "Restructure the pro-cycling calendar".
I was surprised that Millar didn't mention it in his response comments (elsewhere on t'internet), but I should imagine that his boss will have somethng to say about it.
Like others on here yes I can remember being that age (please note I say age, 21 is not young) I had been driving cars and motorbikes for three and a half years and had yet to knock somebody off their pushbike still haven't. Mistakes are drinking too much and falling over etc, not hitting someone then bragging about it.
As for learning from this I seriously doubt that she has.
Hang on a minute, quote, “specific sections of the report will be sent separately to relevant stakeholders” Is Pat again picking and choosing what to send to 'Stakeholders'?
"I wouldn't bother upgrading your Giant wheels unless you are going to go beyond the Aksiums as I don't think you will get enough out of it to warrant a change."
My mate also has the excellent Defy3 and the wheels are pretty good on it. Getting Aksiums is not enough of an advance over the original wheelset to justify you spending the money.
Save your £££ for the moment until you can buy a wheelset like the Ksyrium or equivalent.
THEN you WILL notice the improvement.
I hate to say it but I must confess it crossed my mind. Especially if he had some 'vino'
Work done by firms like Deloitte goes well beyond just auditing accounts - for instance, PwC provide the independent adjudicator for the National Lottery draws.
Since Deloitte is an independent auditing firm, that provides a guarantee of sorts that collation and presentation of results is above board; something I imagine would have been called into question had the UCI conducted the survey and presented the findings itself.
Also, in this case, given the nature of the surveys I imagine there would indeed have been a lot of number crunching involved.
"Decide whether to hold an independent inquiry into the Armstrong affair..." Perhaps a high profile sportsperson, e.g. a Baroness would be willing to be involved in this new and credible scheme?
Wise words, alotronic. Bar bags are great. Mind you, I can't help wonering if I could get this down to 400g if I cut off the handle and straps. 200g less bag allows 200g more patisserie on tour!
Offers welcome on this - could be a bargain in it for someone!
Deloitte are also a business consultancy - I suspect it's that arm that did this. Most important recommendation missed : remove mcQuaid.
Anyone based in or around Manchester could go to popupbikes on Corporation Street. Free and instant! Plus good Mancunian roasted coffee!
I wondering if he would have been pulled over had he been wearing a helmet.
A good position blows all other potential gains out of the water. So if you can get a better position on a tt bike then it is a good way to go. The steeper position should help on the run too- so i am told- but I believe a good ride should never be ruined by preceding it with a swim or following it with a run.
Personally I would look at Boardman AirTT or a 2nd hand Cervelo P3.
Nibali is in great form. I just wish he was having to break a sweat for this win. It would at least reduce my suspicions that he was doping. No vulnerability on a 3 week tour is too good to be true. I thought the back and forth between Rodriguez and Hejesdal last year was more authentic (but probably not untainted).
I saw the interview and *figuratively* thought she has a face with an attitude that makes you want to punch it and keep on punching... She was trophy hunting, on a damage limitation exercise and being an ice cold biatch. She has no sincerity and doesn't give a flying fook about the cyclist that could have been maimed or killed by her car and her driving. As others have said she is gutted she made the tweet and thats it. Its not just that though, she moans about other drivers when she has just what 3 or 4 years driving experience tops yet she photographs other cars on her smartphone and tweets about them... while she is driving, and then another one at 95mph.... She needs 3 year ban and big fine for what she has done. Then hopefully she'll lose her job and then she might just realise that she can't go around being the type of horrible, ignorant and arrogant person she is. Seriously, a firm line needs taking when vulnerable road users become victims and it has to send out the right message. If it was me I'd send her to prison for 14 days for what she has done, even if she hadn't tweeted it.
How does an accountancy firm get to do this? Surely there can't be any number crunching involved? Anyway sounds like some good suggestions. I'm sure McQuaid will do whatever fanagling he can do to avoid implementing them.
My purist team has been hit badly with 3 riders pulled out so I'd expect to finish outside top 3 tbh ,
On the plus side, my decision to gamble and stick with Sanchez and Di Luca have bumped me back to 3rd in the Giro comp and given me hope of consolidating
Aksium were on my bike at purchase. Good reliable wheels, absolutely nothing wrong with them. I did crack a front rim after a few years use, probably the road not the wheel to blame and bought Fulcrum 3s which make me feel faster (I have read the other thread). They do accelerate faster, whether my top speed is quicker is another matter. I wouldn't bother upgrading your Giant wheels unless you are going to go beyond the Aksiums as I don't think you will get enough out of it to warrant a change.
Most police stations offer the service.
Sometimes local police will tweet or otherwise publicise some event or other that they're going to (local fairs are a common one) where they'll do bike marking. A local cafe round here has regular "police days" where anyone bringing a bike in can get it security marked.
As above, great to see the police being pro-active in the issue of bike theft, well done that officer.
Good point - why doesn't road.cc do an article on bike security and add it to 'what to ride when it's raining' etc.
