The producers know controversy creates conversation which in turn promotes Top Gear. The format is tired, the content very dull and repetitive, and the presenters utter c*c*s who's ego's are fed solely by an audience of tabloid reading idiots.

All you have to do is look at the audience on the show. They clearly place the 'attractive' girl at the front to dissuade the tv audience that it isn't full of a load of middle aged men wishing they were the stig who otherwise would be at home locked in their mums bathroom with the screwfix catalogue power tool section.

Next week - something about an expensive car and how great it is and yet at the end they will say its crap, joke about hammonds height/teeth/hair, joke about the floppy haired twat whose names eludes me, staged race/challenge, some bloke promoting a film comes on and drives a car, something about an indian car......and Clarkson looking more and more like a saggy leather cushion furnished in denim ....repeat for another 20 series.

    My sentiments entirely.

Sadly the unholy trinity of tg presenters are in the very privileged position of being paid a fortune to churn out this drivel!

There's a few more choices if you're not wedded to the chainstay mounted brake but I understand its preferable if you plan to fit panniers.

In amongst the 122 others (and counting), Mrs Dorling posted what has to be the most significant comment of the lot, but it was hardly noticed amid a din of shouts and insults by people accusing each other of all sorts just because they don't agree.

  • London woman reunited with stolen bike - after police stop pavement cyclist 13 miles away1 year 21 weeks agoI had the same thing happen

I had the same thing happen to me a couple of years ago. I had a bike registered on Immobilise and kept all the paperwork. When the bike was stolen in 2009 i reported it and said that the frame number and details were on Immobilise.

A couple of years later i received a call out of the blue from City of London police. They had stopped a guy for another offense but when they got the bike to the station, the officer decided to check the frame number. What do you know, comes up through Immobilise that the bike is stolen. The officer told me he was very surprised and usually he doesn't check these things!!

Anyway, due to some legal issues, namely the crim jumping bail, i was reunited with my bike about 8 months later. I was impressed to see that whoever stole it took the effort to steal similar branded parts to keep it maintained!

Slightly changing the subject here but i've just sat through prime ministers questions (sad i know) and it was brought up about the sentencing for death by dangerous / careless driving.

Cameron, as usual, spouted a complete load of rubbish and said the relevant minister would look at it - next question please.

What hope is there when they cant even be bothered to give at least a decent answer.

Thanks everyone so far - keep them coming!

I'm leaning towards the Fulcrum - but I don't know why.
For info, I tour more than race - did 450 miles last year in 4 days and I'm doing London to Edinburgh this year.

Climbing - I do *some* but only on the way to somewhere or as part of a sportive - I'm not at the stage of thinking of attacking Alpe D'Huez etc...

    Does that change the picture?

  • Advice - SPD-SL vs. Speedplay pedals1 year 21 weeks agoI've used X-series for over

I've used X-series for over ten year and Zeroes for a couple of years after going through various spd style. If you want more float and less adjustment seriously look at X-series. I find the spring on the X-series is easier than the Zeroes. Or even look at the Light range. Look on ebay as for around £130 you can upgrade to better bearings and stainless axle.

Bad points, the cleats are expensive and I change mine every year. The instructions say every 3500km. They take quite a while to set up correctly. X-2s have a needle bearing that's near impossible to remove.

Good points, knee saving, double entry. You can walk on them without worrying about the cleat itself, just don't fill it with mud. There are places on ebay that sell plastic covers that you walk on and don't need to remove (much reccommended). Apart from pumping grease into the pedal evey now and then, they seem to be bombproof.

  • 5 clever cycling innovations from the Taipei Cycle Show1 year 21 weeks agoQRs that double as tyre

QRs that double as tyre levers strike me as a bad idea for at least 2 reasons: metal levers more likely to damage rims and no cam (screw up) for tension means more likely to come loose in normal use through vibration. Bike tent is a solution in search of a problem - there are lots of quality tents with super light poles, so it can't be about saving weight. In a breeze the bike will fall onto the tent, causing it to collapse and potentially harming the occupants. And the fact that the bike is structural presumably means you can't erect your tent then go for a ride on your bike. Wireless brake warning light is equally pointless. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

  • Top Gear: Cyclist’s widow tells Jeremy Clarkson: 'Look me in the eye'1 year 21 weeks agoI think we are all used to

I think we are all used to and expect Top Gear's blend of lazy oafish humour, but some of the imagery on Sunday evening crossed a line.

The images of crushed bikes alongside slogans suggesting that the rider would have been alive had they behaved differently (not being poor, or not being self righteous) were quite offensive and I can understand how Mrs Dorling feels.

It may have been received better if TG had countered the offensive stuff with some real positive messages to help cyclists, but they didn't bother.
