    Shortly after I bought my first road bike I went on a basic maintenance course at Evans Cycles. A fellow attendee claimed to be an international triathlete and when it came to the bit about mending a puncture he said he didn't know how to get a tyre off, "because I have a mechanic to do that".

    Big Grin Hm well for starters i adore the Volare..i just bought one...um or should i say i ordered one 11 months ago and just got it on the road last week...
    Oh my but worth the wait though Id say it was more like 9/10 for climbing...
    Not remotely impressed with Giant...despite a cracked frame and ovalised head set on my carbon bike the dealership i bought it from refused to honour the warranty even though its less than two years old....
    way to go guys...i shall NEVER buy a giant or parts from them ever again!
    on the plus side ive looked at steel again and am now working on building up a new winter training bike using the Genesis 853 frame as a base and striping the C24s and parts of the chainset off the old giant... going to buy a carbon seat post, cross carbon forks and low drop carbon bars off wiggle who buy the way were £70 cheaper than chicken cycles...nice going guys..Happy Safe riding and remember lights and a helmet and check your bike

    Unless of course every haulier fills up in Luxembourg (still only 40 Euro cents cheaper per liter, about 30%) or there are rebates for the haulage industry?

    What do you mean by cost of diesel theft for police budgets? Do you mean it's common enough to use up a significant amount of police resources? If so, good that they actually investigate some things... though it'd be better if people getting hurt or killed got prio sometimes rather than property.

    Had the same problem with a Felt AR2. It was 10 days old. I think it was a problem with the chain that caused it. Saddleback who are Felt's people over here were terrible and refused to replace anything and tried to blame me. It came down to the LBS to replace the rear derailleur but nothing else. The frame got chipped and I have had to live with it. Keep fighting to get what you paid for and use the internet to make your point. Twitter and the like are a great way to spread the word.     He had no power meter on his race bike that he finished on. He'll have one for training and maybe for other races, but he didn't use one at PR

    I think you're wise to suggest trying both the Dales. However being 194cm the chances of my local dealers having my size, probably 63 or 61, is slim. I originally took note of all the stacks and reaches of all the bikes I was interested in but couldn't easily differentiate between the figures to arrive at a level of aggression. For example, aesthetically the canyon I think looks, and I've heard feels higher than other brands, but it's stack is similar to the SuperSix 398 and 396 respectively.

    What really there me off, and bear with me here, is the BMC slr02 .Now reviews say this is plenty comfortable blah blah, but it's stack is 601cm , does that mean I am still looking at race geo and comfort is more reliant on the particular riders anatomy and flexibility?

    I know many would suggest horses for courses, but I really want a bike that is able to put in the long miles keeping me comfortable, for sportive say, but that I can easily ride in a rode race and be competitive. I think it comes down to a poor fit on my current bike, which leads to believe my flexibility is also poor. (I haven't had a bike fit yet, so presumption only) so I really don't know what kind of geo I should be looking at, and being my height, test rides are tough.

    I'm going to take from it, that on a ride of similar length and climbing (last years RideLondon100) my average speed was ONLY 10-11 Kph slower. Cool

    Horses for courses. My carbon bike is 1.5mph average faster than my steel bike but my steel bike feels like history. Totally pointless trying to make steel race bikes, no matter what genesis and feather are doing, but they are good for going the distance and generally just cruising about on. And they last. And they are not an ecological nightmare when you try to retire them. But carbon bikes really are faster. But... but... but... rinse repeat until you have at least one of each Smile

    Of all those bikes above I saw at the show I actually liked the shands the most - quite plain in colour but great angles and very well thought out. The really bling bikes just put me off these days.

    That's under the current "athlete's hour" rules, where bikes are meant to replicate Merckx's machine.     I will sign up to the lustful tag in seconds. The above bikes seem to convey more thought in their design, passion in their manufacture and greater originality than their carbon cousins. But why is this? I think the carbon variant is becoming almost generalised in nature, with little variance in its perceived perception. Yes, they are probably stiffer, lighter and more technologically advanced but I would argue that they do not provide the spread of variation that steel provides. There again, I am a fully paid up member of the 'steel (and titanium) is real' club and am, therefore, not totally objective!
