Some people are strange, lobby the world to get the TDF through your place and then complain because it is actually coming. Have a party, but banners up, pain the roads, etc.. Cheer up!!! It's your opprtunity to show the world how good you can be!

  • cav to win ta stage two???1 year 17 weeks agoI made no transfers so have 5

I made no transfers so have 5 for tomorrow - hoping Ciolek will have another go today as he got good points for me yesterday and can be strong over the slightly lumpier stuff. Still have Hushovd from the TTT, so would be nice if he fancied it too...

I'm equally sure 99.9% of potential buyers wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Builders like Rourkes have been producing high performance bikes for decades, and have pioneered the use of such materials. Genesis, on the other hand, seems to think that a good reputation for producing value-for-money products can be parlayed overnight into becoming a high-end brand, charging Colnago-like prices, because they've spec'ed some wider diameter head tubes and bottom brackets from their suppliers.

Also nobody is saying that local frame builders make their products out of rainbows and moonbeams, but (a) the fact that their raw materials are produced abroad nowadays is not their fault and (b) if their wares have been halfway around the world two fewer times then that is a big selling point, for those who care about such things.

  • Paris Nice queen stage1 year 17 weeks agoJust used the 1 transfer

Just used the 1 transfer today leaving 4 for tomorrow:

    Ulissi(in for Malacarne)
    Westra
    G Izagirre
    Van Garderen
    Kelderman
    Grivko
    Talansky
    Quintana
    Keizer

For me DeGendt or Clarke would be the break options today but just too expensive to get in to the team as it would mean dropping two guaranteed points scorers for a speculative punt and a squadfiller.

It's been a atrange race so far as usually theres a 3-5 credit DS in amongst the GC/KOM/Youth/Pts competitions which frees up a bit of budget but there's not one.

8 men standing in my purist team after Bouhanni's swan dive

Kelderman,Van Garderen,Spilak,Porte,Westra and then Kittel,Renshaw,Viviani who won't be much help now.

  • Icebike 2013: Volare range and new 853 Equilibrium + video1 year 17 weeks agoRe the 931 frame: The comment

Re the 931 frame: The comment from Genesis suggesting that most people in the market for a high-end frame, will go the extra mile for the 953, would suggest that the difference in cost between the two must not be that much. My initial reaction however, was that it's an intentional ploy (perfectly acceptable) on behalf of Genesis, to guarantee sales of the 953 frames. As there is a very clear distinction between the 853 and 953 versions, in terms of cost, people will definitely go one way, or the other. If the 931 version is just a little cheaper than the 953, then a lot of people would opt for that, potentially leaving the really high-end frames stacking up on the shelves.

  • Tour in Yorkshire… not everyone's happy about expected influx of cyclists1 year 17 weeks agobit of a pointless article

bit of a pointless article here. Of course some people won't be happy. After all it will be all loss for many as they will get an influx of cyclists which isn't always nice, even if they are angelic, and get nothing for it. Any gains will be for the wider community and very often that means just a few. Just like the Olympics. I won't see any benefit but I do see negatives.
To be honest all these comments, even mine would be better off not being published, including the news item. How about an extra pic of a nice bike instead?

  • Tour in Yorkshire… not everyone's happy about expected influx of cyclists1 year 17 weeks agoThis does highlight one major

This does highlight one major concern of mine; the selfish few causing problems for the majority.

I would guess that that a tiny number of people have ridden like plonkers through the villages but, of course, they are the ones that stand out and are remembered by the locals who then see everyone as being a problem.

What does it cost to think about the effect on others round you, slow down a fraction when coming though a place people live etc.? After all that is exactly what we want car and truck drivers to do for us.

During Sportives I have seen groups of cyclists run red lights and it is annoying. I have never seen a cyclist take off a wing mirror but have seen a few cyclists taken down by one on a moving car.

My biggest bugbear after a mass ride is the number of dropped gel wrappers (not a concern of the article I note).

The comments on the Craven Herald non-story are refreshing. Only one gibbering simpleton blethering about pavement cyclists, and everyone else calmly and logically taking this piece of dimwitted hackery apart.

I'll make a mental note never to spend any money in Embsay in future though, nasty little NIMBYs.

  • cav to win ta stage two???1 year 17 weeks agoI think he will do well

I think he will do well today.

I like the fact he still scored as many points as Goss yesterday so no big loss unless you had both.
Liked the fact he went for the intermediate sprints, seems to show he may want the points jersey, but would need to win today and monday
