I rode to Norwood Green from Hyde Park after Saturday's triathlon. My wife left at the same time and took the tube from Kensington to Osterley then drove (yes, I know - children in tow) to Norwood Green. My journey time was 40 minutes, even allowing for the almost countless traffic signals and busy traffic; she took well over an hour.

Totally agree. Bear in mind cycling enjoying a huge surge in popularity and viewing figures for these events. Porter can totally confuse even seasoned cycling fans never mind newcomers to the sport. Having said that there's not many commentators who've won at the Commonwealth Games and rode the ToB so he does know more than most about the sport - albeit from experiences decades ago. A backward step by ITV nevertheless.

Another point. Why do riders not have a race number somewhere on the front of their person/bike. Probably tradition and aerodynamics but with all these daft ventless helmets currently in fashion, could numbers not be stuck on them? It would certainly help commentators identify riders in a head-on sprint shot (with the exception of David Harmon who seems to recognise riders by their form alone).

All you need is one special tool, the crowsfoot spanner. Oh, and a torque wrench, but every single other power meter on the market requires one for optimum performance.

Which cheaper crank meter are you using? The cheapest one I can think of is Power2Max but you still need to buy the crank so it might not be cheaper in the end. These are much cheaper than an SRM that's for sure. Unless you mean Stages? Cool for you if it works with your cranks, no chance for me unfortunately as mine are carbon.

That's why these are a good option in my opinion.

  • Kinesis Aithein - First ride1 year 6 weeks agoI'm going to wade in a say it

I'm going to wade in a say it again, the Aithein is an amazing bike. It's brought my riding to life more than any other bike, making me want to attack everything. It's handled everything from Crit racing to the triple ascent of Ventoux and the RideLondon 100. So it can do short and fast, long and hilly and long and fast. Pretty well rounded then!

But then this bike is ideally suited to me and what I want from a road bike. If you push it, it only gets better Smile

Perhaps the bookies live in London, they probably think Llanberis is in Lincolnshire.

As well as the climbs, it will depend on how brave (or tired) the riders feel descending Llanberis Pass. If a group is away after Betws Y Coed I wouldn't bet against it, though if it's someone chasing GC then Sky would chase. And there's another tough day tomorrow, and the forecast is wet.

  • Garmin Vector power meter pedals1 year 6 weeks agoSo they are a PITA to fit due

So they are a PITA to fit due to the need for lots of special tools to torque them carefully every time they are fitted, they only come in 1 pedal type and nobody can prove one way or another whether there is any value whatsoever in knowing L/R leg power balance? Ummmm.... and the price....4.5 stars....

I'll stick to a cheaper crank system that can be swapped between bikes in no time with only an allen key and can use whatever pedals I fancy.

Surprise They've banned children not adults

In the article above it says "No bikes, no ball games." I have not seen what signs are posted at this particular location but I have seen similar signs elsewhere. I imagine,
the intention, reprehensible as it is, is probably to ban children cycling, but the wording references just bikes not the rider. I would agree that if you cycled home from work to this estate you would have no problems. However, in my opinion, the wording does reflect an ingrained attitude that cycling is something children do and adults grow out of it to do grown-up things like drive cars. We have a lot of work to do in this country to get over that attitude.
