    RETURNING FROM THE MALL

    • If you are cycling back to an official car park, you will be expected to find your own way, so if you are unfamiliar with London come prepared with a map or GPS and plan your route at www.tfl.gov.uk/cycling – but remember, you will be cycling on open roads again, so will be sharing the roads with other traffic.
    • Prudential RideLondon Chartered Thames Clippers, departing at regular intervals between 11:00 and 19:00, will be running from Blackfriars Pier to Canary Wharf, North Greenwich and Trinity Buoy Wharf Piers. They will be strictly for participants only, with no pre-booking required. Each boat can carry 50 participants and their bikes with a maximum journey time of 40 minutes.
    • There will also be the opportunity to have your bicycle transported from near the Finish Area back to a secure location in east London between 10:30 and 19:30, while you make your own way on public transport. Further details of this will be sent to you at a later date.

    PICK-UP

    • Please plan your meeting point in advance with your friend/relative. When planning your meeting point you will need to consider the following to avoid the extensive road closures and any congestion:
    • Your agreed pick-up location should not be within a two-mile radius of The Mall, north of the river. This means that you will need to choose a location that is south of the river, north of Regents Park, east of Tower Bridge, or west of Kensington Gardens.
    • If you are being dropped off at an official drop-off location, the same locations will not be available for use as pick-up locations.
    • You are advised to use an existing off-street car-park facility, but make sure you agree this in advance. Many London roads require local parking permits and normal Sunday parking restrictions will apply.

  • Will spending round cuts & investment be good or bad for cycling?1 year 7 weeks agoObviously Betteridge's law

Obviously Betteridge's law doesn't work here since the writer has cunningly avoided a yes/no question.

The answer to the headline actually seems to be "we have no idea". But I would suggest that the focus on "road-building" doesn't bode well since in contemporary times roads aren't very bike friendly.

Very disappointing that there wasn't a specific reference to cycling anywhere in the announcements yesterday or today (that I've seen).

There needs to be a line drawn on the past. Future wise - lifetime bans for all Dopers.

Disagree. You increase the jeopardy for dopers by saying we will catch you whenever we can, rather than saying if we don't catch you at the time that is cool. The moral of Armstrong's story is that you may reap high rewards but you'll lose them all in the end if you cheat. Athletes will see that and the choice to dope becomes a little harder. Also, the point about LA was that the dopers were one step ahead of the anti-dopers. When they caught up with him he was hiding behind the 7 year rule. They caught him on a technicality.

Part of the bigger picture is that all athletes from all sports should have regular blood tests, not just cycling. The testing should be rigorous in and out of competition. We get rid of cheats in all sports and Hinault's precious Tour is not hit by negative publicity, because all the sports are equally in the sh!t.

Lifetime bans aren't required if there is an adequate blood testing program. If you can prove the cheats, or retrospectively catch them. If there is no where left to hide, people won't try to cheat.

Has anyone else received their start time?

As it mentions in the FAQ's

"You will be notified of the time of your start time by email at the beginning of June. Faster riders will be given earlier start times to minimise the need for overtaking and spread the field. All riders will have up to nine hours to complete the ride. Riders must plan travel carefully to ensure they arrive at the Start in good time for their assigned start time as it will not be possible to start in a later wave. No riders will be able to start after the last wave at 08:00."

Do have to ask, what matters more aero or disc brakes...

seems to be two sets of parallel product development programs going on. I Don't see how you can get a disc as aero as these latest caliper designs? With weight not being an issue, the arguments that discs mean lighter wheels doesn't really matter imo.

  • Hard-man hero Jens Voigt on family, drugs, the Tour - and being this year's oldest rider1 year 7 weeks ago@ Colin Peyresourde: That is

    @ Colin Peyresourde:
That is kind of my point there is no actual evidence of Jens doping, other than speculation, heresay and cynicism. Has anyone accused him ditrectly in the way Lance was accused? I'm not aware of it (doesn't mean it hasn't happened) which makes me think that its more likely speculation than someone in the know.
I accept lots of riders were doping, probably most. Comparing to Millar, who was winning races - i.e. World TT champion clean according to his book before he decided to dope. Jens never was that successful, hence my point if he doped he would've won more. I agree all dopers deny, but then so would any clean rider. Your argument is a damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. He can't deny because all dopers deny. Its a bit like making the statement 'I am a lair' if its not true then i'm a liar, which makes it true, but if its true i'm not a lair and therefore can't be true.
I agree that cycling must be cleaned up and get any cheats out - personally i think that if an althete is caught a 2nd time then a lifetime ban for them and massive fines for the teams involved should be introduced. Make the teams more responsible and punishable then that may help. I guess I agree with you, but also disagree. Maybe that is more heart than head on my point or maybe i'm just less cynical and believe in people.
Jens definately doesn't look invulnerable to me, again, he would win/won more if he did.

Thanks for the thorough review Jez. We hope crash testing doesn't become a permanent feature of a road.cc review.

The race radio pocket was an addition for those who might go Pro. However, we are looking at swapping it for a knitted breathable panel in the next development of the short. So all you Pro's will have to find somewhere else to keep your radio (or emergency £5 note).

Our ladies Breakaway bib shorts have arrived at howies HQ too, and should be turning up at road.cc Towers for testing any day now.
