The Wiggo affect is only worth something if all those lovely racing bikes get out on the roads regularly. The same is true for women buying bikes, if they aren't used...

I would give up my jersey and my Cannondale without a second thought if it meant we could improve the range and depth of cyclists in this country. It needs to be normalised ... I've just got no idea how to do that.

Where are the police on the roads to be "policing" these policies? More political window dressing. Or have they now got smart speed cameras that can do all of these functions? Utter tosh.

I think this is where the race begins to be honest(in real-life terms anyway!!)

When I picked my standard team I basically picked a TT team and worked backwards into a stage 1 team(if that makes snese) so with a transfer saved I have:

    Froome(GC lead tonight methinks!!)
    Kwiatkowski(my man!!)
    Veilleux(heard he's not bad on the aero's)
    Fonseca(probably my only non-scorer today)
    Martin(how can you not!!)
Dennis(he or kwia in white tonight)
Fuglsang(long term goodies and top 20 today no problem)
    Pinotti(bargain!!)
    Clement(overlooked by many?)

Martin,Pinotti and Clement to come out tomorrow

I wouldn't be surprised by a sky/opqs top 5 on today's ITT what with Froome,Porte,Thomas,Martin,Kwiatkowski and Chavanel and maybe even Kennaugh all able to excel?

Contador the unknown and I think we may see a few markers for Le Grand Boucle today?

  • DfT to announce on-the-spot fines for range of careless driving offences1 year 8 weeks agoApologies for being

Apologies for being 'London-centric' but there was something on the news the other night about TfL deciding to enforce £60 fines for breaking ASL laws with more cameras etc. I didn't catch the whole report so can't elaborate but I remember thinking this should have been happening anyway shouldn't it? Not that many drivers I encounter in London give a f*ck about ASLs anyway.

  • DfT to announce on-the-spot fines for range of careless driving offences1 year 8 weeks agoI read elsewhere that

I read elsewhere that stopping in the ASL might be taken out of the hands of the police and passed over to TFL in London. This would allow CCTV operators to enforce much as they do with bus lane parking and yellow hashed area stopping. A large percentage of motorbike riders don't actually realise it is illegal to stop in an ASL but the days of regular Clunk Click style road safety advice adverts are long since gone.

Yep, they've got some pretty reasonable looking gilets on there. I'm thinking either the Mavic 2013 Espoir Vest http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=90636 or the Endura FS260 Pro Adrenaline http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=91336
Both are coming in around the same price but the Endura seems to offer better waterproofing but still claims to be breathable; anybody got experience of either of these products?

+1 on Vittoria, the open corsa is v good and easy to fit, IME

Also the Michelin option mentioned would serve you well, I only ever used pro 3's and they were FAST. Grippy in dry but not great durability. V cheap at the moment. If the pro 4's have improved durability over the 3's then they're a no brainer, as a cheaper summer option.

  • DfT to announce on-the-spot fines for range of careless driving offences1 year 8 weeks agoAnything that makes drivers

Anything that makes drivers think a bit more about the standard of their driving has to be a good thing I suppose. Be interesting to see how often it actually turns out to be enforced though.

Well I don't know the area, but notice that Specialized will be opening a Concept Store in Nottingham. I suggest getting some miles in for now and see how you feel, because your body changes as you progress. You'll start to get a feel for if/what aches and pains you get, over what distances etc. That way, if/when you decide to get a bike fit, you can go to them with x knee pain, y back ache or whatever, and they'll be in a better position to assist.

Have to say I disagree with one of the above comments though. Stretching after a ride is good, but I don't think stretching beforehand is the right thing to do. Just make sure to take it easy for the first 20 mins so that you're warmed up.

Anyone taking Strava "seriously" deserves to be mocked. It's fun to show off the odd KOM to mates, or a bit of light hearted ribbing of clubmates but taking it seriously is another matter. I'm a heavy user, but if someone wishes to take my KOM through a program, good luck to them. I'll give them a bashing up the same hill next time i see them in my sights.
