After what he pulled with Garmin I am not sure this Sir is all about honour, tbh.

As for The Rules... well it is a very toungue in cheek site, and a lot of folks out there do seem to take what they say to heart and get offended. Chill people, it's not worth getting wound up about it.

  • Why is it considered wanky to wear sky kit1 year 7 weeks agoI personally wouldn't wear

I personally wouldn't wear it, but thats more to do with Sky and News International... I won't have The Sun in the house! Nerd Wear exactly what you want to wear. The fashion snobs maybe having a bit of a laugh with the rules, but it goes too far if it makes people feel self conscious or somehow not "proper". I did see a bloke wearing a green and yellow superman outfit complete with cape this week though... would I be a hypocrite if I said maye that was a bit much? I had to do a double take. Big Grin

It's a great problem for Sky in a way. Better than all eggs in one basket.

I seem to remember Brad saying he'd help froome this year so hopefully he will honour that but be a great plan b. As the Giro has shown, anything can happen.

You only commute by bike because you bought your bike a bit cheaper through the scheme? That hardly elevates you to some moral high ground from which to moan at 'grumps'!

On the subject of women specific bikes.

My wife recently changed her bike (mtb) from a small frame men's bike with woman's saddle etc for a full women's specific bike. She can't stop recommending it.

That is a Specialized in her case.

  • Wiggins, career over?1 year 7 weeks ago2nd in the TT and dont forget

2nd in the TT and dont forget he also had to swap bikes for the puncture, so not a bad effort at all really.

Wiggins has his faults for sure, but washed up ? Dont think so. Everyone has highs and lows. He'll be back at some point, like him or loathe him.

  • Why is it considered wanky to wear sky kit1 year 7 weeks agoOne theory is that Team Sky

One theory is that Team Sky is a fairly recent addition to the pro peloton, with a lot of very good riders bought up in a short time, and some degree of success etc, and seen as very much a British team (although many riders are not). They have arrived late to the party with a big cheque book and are seen as a kind of Man Utd type team. Many folk therefore see all the Sky kit wearers as sort of also late to the party jump on the bandwagon cyclists with no prior interest (be that true or not)and little knowledge of the history etc.
This is just one explanation of which I have heard, so dont shoot me down.
I personally draw the line at those guys I have seen sporting World Champion jerseys though. That is naff.

  • Why is it considered wanky to wear sky kit1 year 7 weeks agoI personally HATE the sky

I personally HATE the sky kit, but its not for me to tell anyone else what to wear.

I was on a sportive in March, I was the only recumbent and got some hell of a funny looks, then some smart arse comments as people past me on a climb, in their "pro" kit's and I just laughed to myself as I pasted them on a downhill and slid myself round the corners.

I enjoyed myself, that's the whole point, its not what you wear or what you ride. Its about enjoyment.

BUT, turning up in FULL kit, makes you a bit wanky in my book, team jersey's are ok, but when you turn up in team jersey, shorts, gloves, cap, socks, matching shoes and helmet. If you are not riding a team bike, expect to get some shitty comments Wink

For the younger readers who may not know McQuaid's history: Pat McQuaid was banned from the Olympics in 1976 after being caught racing in South Africa, in contravention of the anti-apartheid sporting boycott. He and Sean Kelly had entered the race using false names. I remember the newspaper articles at the time, and their excuses, in reality the pair of them did it for the money. Forget the drug stuff for this alone Mcquaid has no place in cycling.

In that case, does the same apply to Kelly? This is not why McQuaid doesn't deserve to run cycling - the reason he should be out on his ear is because of repeated failures in governance during his tenure.

After trying to avoid having to win the vote in Ireland by getting the Swiss nomination, it looks like McQuaid might have to face the vote after all - Inrng saying that McQuaid holds a lifetime licence in Ireland and therefore can't hold a Swiss licence (which would be a necessity for him to get a Swiss nomination). Could start to get interesting.

The UCI (AKA Pat McQuaid) say there is no problem with Pat's Swiss nomination, as he is a member of the Swiss Cycling Federation, and that his honorary licence has no bearing.

  • Wiggins vows to be back to full strength for Tour de France1 year 7 weeks agoSky does have an advantage of

Sky does have an advantage of this in-fighting, publicity, this is fantastic for Sky as a sponsor as it gets their name all over the press and forums like this, far more than "just another win", sensationalism like this is good for the sport and it creates interest outside of the sport.

However from a purist view, I think Wiggo should shut up and support Froome, he had a below par Giro before he got ill, and this talk of a double has come back to haunt him.

If it wasn't for the cycle to work scheme I'd be another muppet sat in a queue of traffic for twenty miles belching out acrid diesel fumes five days a week. If reports like this just get a dozen more people out of a car and onto a bike then maybe we won't all being going to hell quite so soon... plus we stand an ever so minute better chance of not getting knocked off by a smidsy!
