• Sustrans: Cyclists should slow down1 year 5 weeks agoThere's one thing that

There's one thing that everyone here seems to have missed: John Usher's long-winded diatribe was issued in the middle of Bristol's Cycling Festival, and when there are so many positive stories about cycling, it has seriously sabotaged the festival. Instead of talking about how brilliant cycling is for the city and the individual, people are wasting time and energy defending cyclists. This article was a completely un-necessary distraction from the festival, it could have been published before or after, and to do so during the festival is either incredibly niave or stupid.

The only good thing about it is that it is so badly written, so long and so verbose, that most media wouldn't use it. If it is just his opinion and this wasn't approved by Sustrans' publicity person, why does it mention that he works for them? Original article here, try not to fall asleep half way through http://www.bristol247.com/2013/07/17/all-cyclists-have-a-collective-resp...

Froome - is he tiring ??
    Quintana - guaranteed good points
Nieve - will not be far away
    Kreuziger - gritty strength
Navarro - come on Daniel, the Tour is nearly over
Riblon - he may try for KOM points on first two climbs
Fischer - My 0 pointer Brazilian beach bum from start to finish
Gadret - seems to be getting stronger
Zubeldia - can climb really well on his day

  • Price inflation1 year 5 weeks agoSorry for including this

Sorry for including this suggestion here and now, but I wanted to get it in print while it was fresh in my mind.

Is it possible to have a banker included in the team lineup?

IE; you have to pick one rider (or maybe two, one sprinter one GC) for free before the competition starts, he costs nothing then you have 150 points for the other eight.

I know most people will choose the same rider in lots of competitions, but that may not necessarily be the best choice, and adds another aspect to the game. Knowing you have a banker in your team allows you a little more flexibility to play with your other riders.

Could it work or is it making the game too purist like some some people?

Why do people still get so beat up about who is or isnt doping. All professional sport has lost credibility for cheating or one sort or another and will continue to do so with so much fame and fortune up for grabs. It is what it is. Treat it as fiction and if you are entertained by what you are watching then job done.

YES, in a 9 rider per team race, it would be quite easy to make one rider from each team a super cheap guy

But if that rider is worth more then it is false engineering and doing it for the sake of it.

The game is supposed to be a challenge, not a walk in the park for toys to be spat out the pram.

Indurain tested positive at the 1994 Tour de l'Oise. Salbutamol was banned in France at the time but had not yet found its way onto the UCI's banned list. Indurain was not sanctioned.

Dutch broadcaster NOS quoted Italian investigator Sandro Donati who claimed that Banesto riders including Indurain were involved with Dr Conconi and another source corroborated the story.

    Calm down Dears

It is a bike race after all, I am as passionate as the next person to see clean racing and performance data will aid in catching cheats.

I reiterate will aid, it does not prove doping or clean riding it can be indicator of something suspicious but a negative does not prove a positive or visa versa. I am as interested in VoMax, Lactate tolerance and recovery data (which I have not seen) as I am in power output. The current SRAM data obsession places us all at risk of being blinded by watts.

Finally clean riding does not mean more equal performances potentially the reverse may be true as genetic differences between riders are not camouflaged (compensated?) by artificial means. Should we therefore genetically test potential racers to ensure they fall within one or two standard deviations of whatever the norm genetic makeup of a human is before issuing them a racing licence.

I was being uncharacteristically ironic in my original post but this is all getting unnecessarily complicated. Changing algorithms and scoring systems is over the top. This situation has come about because the riders selected for the TdF have form that means they aren't cheap. It probably won't happen for any other race.

The TdF must account for a huge chunk of any team's annual budget - more bus fuel, more hotel rooms, more bidons, more chamois cream, more everything. It costs the sponsors more, it costs Eurosport more pie money for Carlton Kirby, it costs road.cc more to post all those mini-pumps that I never win. It's a big-budget affair.

So give us a bigger budget.

This probably won't happen for the Vuelta, but if it does then just up the budget a bit. I'm only suggesting an increase of 50 points or so to avoid being forced to pick the same four cheapest riders as every other player in the game.

Is it unworkable to give people more money for the TdF than for the Tour of Poland?
